We are fixing to get our first gale of the season tomorrow, big North wind, calling for 12 footers on Lake Gichigoomie...but this morning was so nice and warm, 45 degrees, with a mild 10mph W wind, a fellow just HAD to go out!
I was up and read the Forums, mapquested some semi sheltered inland water and headed out...changed the batteries in the Pro..even with iron off and never using the PP button, I am getting less than 15hrs on them..no biggie, they pop right into my F70 and I get a good 15 more! I was in the water by 10, determined to find some gold, waders leak in the crotch, and several other places, seems a fellow only gets a year out of them with all the walking we do, we walk the crotch right out of a good pair of waders in short order...[attachment 302080 oct3014-4.jpg]

My Buddy Sturrat texted me at noon, he found a honey hole and pulled 5 rings!, a bunch of wheaties!, a Merc!, and a ton of clad in two hrs hunting before work!...:surprised:
I had nothing but a few wheaties, tabs, clad, shotgun shells..:sadwalk:...but freshly inspired by his success, all these targets and their age told me, "with all this poop, theres gotta be a Pony in here someplace!"

So there I was, running out of steam, soaking wet, wind coming up, when I hit this ring!...[attachment 302081 oct3014-3.jpg] It sounded like another tab or shotgun shell, so it was just as surprised as I was to be in my scoop!:lmfao:[attachment 302082 oct3014-2.jpg]

I saved all the junk for a group photo...I got 4 wheaties, a paltry clad haul, but as you can see from the junk shot, I was really targeting gold tones..Pro set on 40 disc, iron off, sens anywhere from -3 to full power depending on the bottom...digging nearly everything hoping for a chain..[attachment 302083 oct3014-1.jpg]

So thats it, Mateys...just another day in the life of the Mudster...:heh:

That is just absolutely gorgeous! You finding that beautiful gold ring makes me want to go detecting.:detecting:

Mud you're wearing it out. Nice going.

Thanks Tab...I was thinking of you when pulling all these tabs...I settled down and figured you would sure work this place for Old Glory!:clapping: So I did what you woulda done here, which is dig it all...especially the scratchy signals and deeper whispers...I'm thinking theres a chain in here...I think that little propeller came off an old toy boat...I dont think its off a lure..

Good job on the gold mud. You have been swinging and a lot digging under some tough conditions. You were owed that one. :beers: HH jim tn

Mud , you continue to impress, my pants would look like that ,if I dug it .
Luck is - Instinct and determination

"Could it be the north wind they'd been feeling"..... There is something real rewarding hunting in extreme weather. I actually like a cold wind on my face, hunting in the poring rain or a (not too cold) blizzard with snow.

... waders leak in the crotch...

yeah....i'll use that line if i ever find gold and pee myself

Looks like some of my piles, minus the ring, lol. Good job dude! Was that in a big, long stretch? Or in a centralized locale? Congrats again!

Yeah, Dgruff...you see that big bronze splined thing near the top? Thats off an outboard, the SS washers are off of the dock...and the keys?..I was hunting on either side of an old boatramp as you can imagine by looking at the junkshot, boatramps get a lot of traffic and lots of things get lost there...
Mud

Oh yeah, lol. I've hunted a few boat ramps out here too. And you're right, there's all kinds of junk around every one of them!

You're made of tough stock. The harsher weather conditions you get earlier than my area test a person. Leaky waders and all you hung in and scored sweetly. We are getting a taste of cold and wet now but not like you. Congrats Mud! Great post!

Leaking waders huh ? If you say so.............. Maybe I just see it through a 54 year olds bladder when I have too much coffee. Sweet ring.
