I keep getting fooled by the iron haylow from nails...

and need some pointers on how to overcome this dilema. I run the xs in discriminate mode with ferrous tones. Since I'm so new at the Explorer I don't like the iron mask feature because it gives me too much information and I still get fooled by the iron haylow. It sounds really good one way and sorta good the other. When I pinpoint I tend to get centered on the nail and think it's a good target but when I dig down all I have centered on was the head of the nail.

Patrick,
I too get fooled alot, but what helps to is once you get a signal is to see where it is and come at it from a differnt angle, see if it still reads with the high pitched tones in the same spot. Sometimes I will go completly around it and if it sounds good from 2 differnt directions I dig, but if it only sound good one direction and not a real good tone chance are it is a false off of iron.
I hope it will help you.
Rick
