I forgot to mention that once you find a set of settings your interested in. You need to run them for a couple weeks at least! If you keep changing them everytime you go out then how do you tell what works and what don't work???? Just thought I would put that up for discussion. I have talked to allot of people and once they get dialed into the machine then they leave those settings alone minus maybe changeing Sens or something minor from site to site. As you know no 2 sites are the same =)) Just thought it might help it did for me =)) Not long after I got my explorer I started out making changes every time I went out and was getting a little frustrated and the good people on this forum set me on the straight and norrow =))
If you listen to what they say there is a million $$$$ worth of info on this forum. Take care HH Mike

my self I use manuel sens. around 19-26 whatever is stable, ferrious tones, gain 7, varibilty max deep on sometimes fast on as well depends if it's real trashy and Iron mask -12 have been using audio 1 for awhile now, took a little to get use to it but wow how the coins scream out.
Like to hear what our Pro's use as well.

Well it's raining here and I still haven't gotten out of here to go to the local detector shop and BS with the rest of the guys and stand around and tell lies all day hehe just kidding. As Far as my settings go This is what seems to work for me =)) Recently I have been hunting old home sites that are full of trash so I have my SunRay Stealth X-5 Coil on and works really well and I have been digging small cents at 6-8" yet!! I hunt with a wide open screen and the only thing that's X'ed out is Nails and Crowncaps and when I think I have a good signal I switch over to IM -16 and make my final decision on weather or not to dig.. If the site don't have allot of trash then I will run IM -16 all day =)) I hunt using the Smart Screen, Sens at this last old home I could get 30 and a steady theshold which I hunt with a threshold just audable or no threshold at all just below audable!!for me depends on if there is allot of trash and if there is allot of trash its one less noise I'm listening to so it helps! If there is not allot of trash then I will run a threshold that is just audiable that kinds gives me a reference point so to speak. Audio Volume Max Limit and Gain at 7, & Tone - Threshold Tone 5 Variability 10 and Limits at 10, & Under the Sounds I run Ferrous!! Under Options I run Advanced and Under Response I run Normal and Under Recovery I have Fast Off and Deep On and something that has helped me is that ~wiggle~ that everyone talks abot =))
This is what works for me here in Ohio =)))).. Mike

That's one of the major mistakes made by new Explorer owners; changing the settings too much. Just like a new set of headphones, it takes time to learn the new sound. Give new settings time for you to get used to them. I still recommend staying with the "turn on and go" preset coin program for at least 2 months. My local customers start out with a good foundation and in no time are digging good finds. Of course I do give them personal advice and instruction if needed, but by the time they learn the "turn on and go" program they are pinpointing, understanding much of the Explorer sounds, and what the smartfind screen is indicating. Great post Mike, good hunting, David @ Dixie
