I just thought of something..... Can the XLT be set up to run like the BHID in AM mode...Supertuned if you will ???

If I could get the level of preformance(depth w/ ID) that the BHID does I'd be thrilled!

I am sure your can tweak the XLT for better depth but mimic the BHID, no. The BHID is (in part) a waterproof DFX, dual frequencies, 3 and 15 KHz.

Yeah, I knew that, forgot to mention the dual freq thing. I thought the BHID was 5 and 15 or was that the CZ6a/CZ20? Hell to be old! ;~) It should be a fun project to tinker with.

Having read 9 or 10 books on the XLT and hunting with an XLT Guru for 8 years...preamp gain of 7 is about tops for depth and stability and the difference if you can get any higher is less than an inch between 7 and 15 preamp gain..
Mixed mode audio is the way to get superior depth if you can handle the noise and if you can beg, borrow or steal of the book( Spectrum Secrets) the author gives the best explanation I ever read on Mixed mode audio of the Spectrum and XLT series...
Another way to go for depth is tweaking the preset relic program and the net is full of programs to give you ideas.
Basically you can make 4 programs to handle different situations and when you hit the fields just plug into the applicable one...
Tweak at home and hunt in the fields and good luck with your new toy....

The DFX, in relic mode with a few adjustments, turns the DFX into a really great wet salt sand hunter. Although not water proof, but with the same operating frequency of the BHID, you can swap out coils, make/tweak adjustments, filters, sweep speed, etc. The signagraph is a big help too, as once you get used to it, one can tell small iron and jagged trash targets from the smoother, rounder targets.

I have had thoughts many times of selling my DFX but for a lot of reasons, always keep it and one of the main ones is how it beach hunts. One cool thing is you can switch to prospecting mode, which runs in the single freq 15kz, and in hunt the dry sand with the small coil and get lots of earrings and small gold...along with A LOT of foil !

The XLT is a great detector, but a BHID or DFX will out hunt it on salt water beaches. They just run much smoother and stable.

If you are hunting the beaches with the XLT, keep us posted on how you make out...especially in all metal mode.

Where do I get a copy of the book Spectrum Secrets Dan? If I can't detect I like to read em'. If yall can reccomend some of the better ones I'll get em and read em. "mixed mode" sounds interesting later I'll tinker with it, need to master the basics, like setting the settings first, lol

If i goto the beach I'll be using the BHID! I'm in Michigan now Rover, no more saltwater unless I go on vacation! ;~( Speaking of vacation here's a "cat" ring I found while on vacation(april), yep diamonds are real..... I'll say it again - I wish I had gotten the BHID 10 years ago.......hands down I think it's the best water machine made.(I've used a few, like 10)

I don't know anything about a BHID, but if you are asking how to set up the XLT so that all detected targets will "hit" at the same loudness (as your volume setting) regardless of depth, you will need to adjust the modulation setting to off (Pro-Options>Audio>Modulation). In other words with modulation off, if a quarter is detected at 5 inches deep, it have the same volume as a quarter lying on the surface.

Good luck.
