I just purchased a new, unused Explorer SE Pro!

I just purchased a new, unboxed, Explorer SE Pro from a store that bought out a metal detecting store in Hawaii on Ebay. No one else bid on it.

It will be interesting to see how much better it is than my Explorer XS and Explorer SE.

Are all the settings the same?

That's pretty good finding a new one at this point. Good luck with it.

That's expensive I would have bought a used E Trac instead.

Cheapest e-trac I can find is $1,350.00. Why buy an E-trac when an Explorer SE Pro is just as good? I don't need to hook up a detector to a computer to tell me where I've been.

Can I ask how much you paid for it ? And does it have the sunray in-line probe ?

The settings are like the XS and the II. With slight variations.

It touted a faster recovery speed. But some users of the II preferred the slower speed. Even though, in theory, "faster" would be better for separating targets (co-located to reduce masking) yet it had the effect of making the beeps themselves much faster also. Thus you had to listen harder to get the audio-hints on the deeper ones. Versus the II, which seemed to get the proper "call" on the first swing over deeper targets.

Other improvements were superior all-metal pinpoint audio, etc...

$850 ? I sure hope it had the in-line sunray probe at that price. Se pro's (when the turn up on ebay from time to time ) go for as little as $500-ish.

I put one on Ebay which INCLUDED the sunray probe. The bid topped out at $810 only (and only 2 bidders). Then the winning bidder never paid or communicated. So I re-listed it, and the next time it fetched no bid whatsoever. WTF ? If anyone wants it, I've just re-listed it again. The sunray probe alone can fetch $300 solo.

The one I had listed happened to be the original SE, matched with a pro coil . Thus making it the same as the SE pro (since the coil was the only difference). Sheesk, if I thought I could get $850 for a naked SE pro, I'd sell this like it is, and keep the probe for a spare for my Exp. II ! haha

On Craigslist you can get a used one for $849.00.
Mine is brand new never opened box with 3 year warranty. I wonder if I can move my Sunray probe from my Explorer XS detector shaft over to my SE Pro shaft myself? Is that possible?

Brand new and with a Minelab 3yr warranty beats a used one without the X1 for 600. Warranty alone is worth alot being it's from ML. Quicker turnaround than used one needing work, if you can even find a repair center. You can still buy new ones for like $1250. An X1 would only be worth $200-$250 to me so I personally think it was a good deal.

There's a huge following for the X1 though.

Yes you can put the Sunray on the new detector. I saw that SE on EBay too. If I would have had the $$ I would of bid on it. Hard to find a brand new unit like that for the price. Good deal.

I just now took that back of the Sunray off to look inside to see how they installed it on the square rod of the XS. It looks like I'd have to de-solder the wires
that go to the connector in the shaft. Then drill out the rivets that hold the body to the shaft. I'd have to drill three holes in the SE shaft, 2 for riveting and one to get the connector wires that go inside the shaft.

SE PRO and Exp 2 are compatible as far as accessories go, coils, shafts, batteries all interchangable, if it fits on Exp 2 it will fit on SE Pro.

The shaft with the probe on it is on the metal shaft that went on the Explorer XS model.

I think the upper shaft can fit into the SE like the EX 2 can.

It does fit but it is a real tight fit. It doesn't easily slide up into the housing of the SE like it does on the XS. The Explorer XS is a lot older model than the SE. Maybe if I sand down a little on the part that goes into the SE?
