I just purchased a new Tesoro Sand Shark Detector my first PI detector.

I just purchased a new Tesoro Sand Shark Detector my first PI detector.

I traded in a Gold Bug Pro I was not really using all that much towards it. I have hunted inland old house sights and such for about 20 years now. I currently use the Garret AT Pro for that task. The AT Pro is a darn good detector over all and does a fine job in fresh water and white sand on the beach even ok on damp sand. Here on the west coast though like all VLF detectors the AT Pro does loose some of it's effectiveness on wet salt water beach's down at the water line.

I have decided after all these years to start taking beach hunting a little more serious. I don't plan to hunt out deep in the ocean as I can not really swim well but I will be hunting low tide as far down as I can get.

After doing the research I think dollar for dollar the Sand Shark detector is a good one and agree with guys like Terry Solomon that has stated the same thing, so I have one on the way. I have used and owned other Tesoro detectors over the years and have no doubt the Sand Shark will be the same, good build quality and it will perform as expected plus the lifetime warranty.

I look forward to the learning curve with the new PI detector and just enjoy the relaxation that come when detecting. ( While the wife reads a book in a lawn chare and says look at my detector geek husband go, oh boy this has been going on for years with her He He!!!)

Any tips go for it guys. I welcome them and thank you all in advance. I have read a lot already and there is some good information available out there and here. Also available is the normal blown out of proportion things that I have seen as well out there. (I have been at this hobby to long to buy into all that and can deceifer the bull from the truth)

Take Care & Happy Hunting To All,

Congratulations , You will love it.I've had one for a year and it works great. You will be doing a lot of digging with the SS. But i think in the long run you will find more stuff. For the price you can't beat it.Just learn how to use it and what she tells you.Look up terry Solomons threads about the SS.It will get greater dept than a VLF in the water and surf line. I pulled a watch out at over a foot deep.Good luck with your new machine.

Keep the gasket free from sand and grease it lightly, housing cover, and long handle sand scoop nothing smaller than 6" scoop , congrats

Bill G,

Theres some fine articles on the PI units by expert Reg Sniff at http://www.nuggetshooter.com/articles/UnderstandingPIdetector.html

Also the Tesoro web site has some good write ups on the Sand Shark to.

Good Hunting HaRM

I have a Sand Shark that I bought a little over a year ago and I have been very happy with this purchase!!
I only go to the beach a couple of times a year, but I do search some freshwater swimming lakes nearby and
have found some nice gold in the process.. mine has paid for itself several times over in the finds I have made.
Get you a good quality long handled sand scoop.... you are going to need it even for just hunting the surf and if you decide to go in deeper or hunt in freshwater, you already have the proper tools.
Make sure to take the rods apart from time to time.. I take mine apart after every water hunt to get the sand out from the shaft sections and locking rings.
If you fail to do this, the shaft will get stuck and you will never get it apart or have a very hard time doing so.
Good luck to you with your new detector and look forward to looking at you future "Shark" finds!!!

Thanks everyone for all the good info....

let us know how you do with the machine,

Thanks again everyone. The Tesoro Sand Shark will be here tomorrow. Also according to the tracking# the Anderson standard straight rod kit will be here for the Sand Shark as well (I think I will like the straight rod set up a little better on the detector) The long handle sand scoop will be in Friday. I will get it all together and head to the beach on my days off (got a few OT days to do first). when I get a chance I will report back on how she performed.

Thanks everyone,
Bill G

Bill G,

I am in your same exact position, where I own an ATPro for land and dry sand, and after research want to get the Shark for the wet satwater sand and surf. I have seen Terry's comments and expect to get one very soon. Please post to this thread and let us know how it goes so we can know what to expect.

Thanks!
