I just ordered my SE.

I just ordered my SE today and was wondering if the factory coin setting works well as it is or is there a tweek to it that will improve my hit ratio? Thanks.

DukeOBass,
the factory settings are a good "ballpark" starting setup...
I found the threshold set way too high for my headphones, so I dropped threshold down to where it just dropped out, then increased the threshold audio up one step so I could just hear it again.

I believe that to be initialising too many variables too soon can cause a new operator to become "lost."

You can always return the SE to "factory default settings" again simply by pressing and holding the "start" button for 2 seconds.

I would suggest that you run the new SE's sensitivity quite low initially too, maybe down to around 10 to 12 so that things are really stable,
to enable you to learn some of what the SE is telling you as you pass the coil over various known targets.

Happy learning curve,

True Tinfoil, good way to go.
The Explorers really keep things well organised in auto.

I agree with what was said above. I too am pretty new to the SE and think that the default settings are fine although I prefer to hear ferrous tones rather than Conductivity. In any case I think air testing some things really helped me learn what the readings would be and the tones they would give off. I also kept a bit of the junk I found and scanned them to see what they sounded like.

For me I still have not made too many adjustment other than tones, reducing the threashold, and setting it up for AM. Seems like there is lots more that can be fiddled with but so far these minor changes let me go out without being too confused and I can find things.
