My hunting partner Tamarac Mike has had a lot of success with his Explorer. So I have to get info/opinions from all. I hunt the beach mostly and more often in the water. My main use is for dry sand and hope to cut back on trash without losing too much gold. I have a stock coil and 8 inch Minelab. The areas are semi trashy and have alot of steel caps. My first thing which coil. I like the 10 for coverage but feel there will too much masking. Which coil work better for edit or learn mode? Another thing is should I notch thing out to a breaking noise or complete nulling? How does the other things like sensitive, gain, fast and deep effect target ID and masking? I will be hunting early morning before work so it will be dark. Should I use the back light or just learn the tones?.I will stop here.Thank you for your opinion and thoughts,Joe A.K.A. HunterJoe

If you are mostly beachhunting, maybe stay with the stock coil. Turn up the sens. until it is unstable then back down a number or 2. Set the gain to 8 or 9. Learn or edit with stock coil. Use as little disc as possible. Try running at -15 or -14 iron mask. I use audio 1 as it gives a continuous signal until you pass it with the edge of the coil. Fast and deep are a matter of personal preference as is using audio 1. Get with your hunting partner and find out what is working for him as he is hunting the same areas as you. Nothing is written in stone so what your preferences will be are different from others.HH
