I Just Bought An ACE 250

Well, after doing research and checking out all kinds of metal detectors for my price range, which is around $200, I ordered an ACE 250 this afternoon. This is my first metal detector and I am looking forward to using it. I narrowed it down between the ACE 250 and a couple of the Bounty Hunter, but I read all negative reviews about the Bounty Hunter, so my decision was pretty much made up. I also read different forums and found out that the 250 was the best for me and my money. I live in Virginia, so Civil War relics are really big in my area. I spoke to my brother today and he mentioned a few places that we could go, such as old abandoned home sites, old churches that are no longer there and old farm houses. The church beside my house use to be a hospital during the Civil War. I am also excited about looking for coins. I know it will take time for me to get good, but I am doing this for a hobby and just like any hobby, it's suppose to be fun. I will keep everyone informed of what I find and I am sure I will be asking a ton of questions!!!!

Bill,

Do you know how well the 250 will do in the Virginia red clay? In my area, there is some red clay throughout the area and I've heard that the red clay has a lot of minerals in it? Thanks a bunch!

You made a terrific choice!! The Ace 250 is amazing for the price. I purchased a Garrett Ace 250 about three weeks ago and have been out to the local park the past 2 Saturday mornings. So far Ive found a 14kt gold ring in the playground under about 6 inches of wood chips and last Saturday I found a 18kt gold and platium wedding band in the sand of the volleyball area! Along with over seven dollars in change my Ace 250 has paid for itself in less than 3 hours of detecting. I'm really impressed with this detector and you will be too!! Don't let the price fool you and please don't even think of comparing the Ace 250 to the lower end Bounty Hunter models.

Can't help you out there as I've never hunted red clay but there are some guys on this forum and one other that live in that area and could probably fill you in. I know some of the guys have had good luck with it at the beach in the saltwater and salt sand which gives a lot of detectors fits. And here in Oregon our soil is volcanic and no picnic to hunt in and the 250 does quite well here.
