And you to Mike Hillis. Bet I got your attention didn't I . I had a Conquistador (non uMax) very good detector as all Tesoro's are but wanted to try a different model. After reading Dave's and Mike's posts how good the Golden is I decided that I would get one. A member has an older Golden Sabre II that I am trading for. As I mentioned numerous times here and on different forums that I don't like multi-tone detectors, but the Golden Sabre has only 2 tones & that I can (probably) live with. Another thing that I am wanting to learn/play with is the notch system. I downloaded the online manual and have read it a few times and I understand what the notch system does but have no idea of how to set it. I am a firm believer if that anything is notched out you stand a good chance of loosing some valuable items. I see in the picts of your finds dahut there is a good amount of tabs & other junk thought that you wouln't have to dig that with a Golden :poke: . I look at getting the Golden as a learning tool. I was just teasing you David & Mike about your love with the Golden I really appreciate all you guys write up on it. I also want to thank you David for taking time and responding to my emails I sent you. People like you are a real asset to the hobby. Thanks! Steve.

Hi Steve,

Congrats on your new machine. The GSII can be set as a single tone machine if you want it that way. If you turn the notch dial all the way counterclockwise everything will sound with the single low tone. If you turn the notch dial all the way clockwise, everything will sound with the single higher tone. For two-tone use, set the notch dial where you want it and everything below that setting will be the lower tone and everything about the setting will be the higher tone. The notch itself only works when you turn it on.

Good luck with it. You should have fun with it.

Now when you say "set the notch dial where you want it and everything below that setting will be the lower tone and everything about the setting will be the higher tone", does this hold true for the accept and the reject mode. Thanks again Mike. Steve.

Thanks Mike, Ilearned more about the way the notch works from reading your post once more than I did reading the manual several times.

Its my pleasure to help, Ski!

I never really got as familiar with the GS II as Mike has, so he is your go-to guy on that model. I did learn to set the controls so I could blank nickles and ID lower and higher tones. If it blanks, it was nickel range. Either side gives a different tone. That way, I had a three way audio ID, counting the blanked nickel range.

As for the trash I dig. I don't consider the Golden a tool to eliminate trash, but one that discerns things. Unlike many, my preference is for recognizing targets, not blanking them. I am mostly concerned with iron, and it's effects on our efforts. Beyond that, once you begin listening to the language of various items, you start understanding more of what is going on beneath your coil.

Regardless, the inescapable fact remains that you must choose to dig, first and foremost. So I do. When it's trash, I just shrug and say, "*&#@%!"

I suppose I could do the same, just as easily, with a montone beeper. But I prefer tones. That's just me.
It makes my detecting more entertaining!

After thinking about the title of my post (I hold you responsible dahut) I feel kind of bad. It was just in fun and I apologise to you dahut. I like to joke around at times and sometimes I don't think before I speak. Steve.

- - then I've done some good. I got the joke angle, we're cool. Don't worry about it.

Does this hold true for the accept reject modes?

Yes.
