I hit the big Drink of Lake Michigan....

Wisconsin Pete

New member
I know most of your have the oceans to hunt, or the gulfs to hit, well I only have the big drink of Lake Michigan...this was my first hunt on the shores of Lake Michigan with my Excal 1000...wasn't dressed to get in the water though I wish I was because one of the ladies in the picture asked me to hunt for her son's confirmation medal that he had just lost last week...I told her I will be back later in the week to see what I can do for her as the weather is suppose to be warmer and I will dress for the occasion...

and I used to live in Port Washington - those pictures look alot like the shoreline along Sheboygan and around there.

I'm in NH now and although I love being near mountains and ocean, I kinda miss the big freshwater lake!

Keep looking out there - there's bound to be some jewelry out there somewhere!

Nice finds! hey every place has its own history and great stuff to find. I'm sure theres lots of gold and silver waiting for you.

and you dont have these guys to worry about in the surf.:look:

pete i hunt lake michigan also. i live in michigan and hunt the lower south east side of the lake. i use these links to determine wave height and water temp. i always take my wetsuit just in case. i've made some very nice finds in that pure sugar sand its great hunting with great scenery!
for wave heights, i don't like anything over 2 - 2 1/2 ft.

an east wind for a couple of days straight pushes all of the warm water over to you and then you won't be getting in without a good wetsuit.

I used to live in a very small town near Benton Harbor back in the late 60's - early 70's. I used to LOVE going to Warren Dunes State Park near Sawyer. I wish I had been into detecting back then - that's the softest sand I've ever been on and the lake is absolutely beautiful to swim in.

I loved that area so much I would even consider moving back there when I retire - if I can afford any of the houses near the lake that is :)

Post some pics next time if you think of it - I miss that area alot!

I bought a wetsuit because of the cold water beaches here in central PA. It's great! I've been able to get into some places that were taking my breath away.
