I decided to try something different today, only wet and dry sand - NO WATER! Those of you who know me know that I am most at home in the Mine but today I decided to change my approach and it paid off pretty well. I hit Elbow Beach on the South Shore at 1pm this afternoon for the start of my whirlwind beach excursion today. Elbow Beach has a steep drop off and even though there are two exclusive hotels on this beach it has never managed to give up the goods. Today was no different with the wet and dry sand giving up a gold plated earring and 67 cents in clad, this in spite of the fact that there was a huge cut on this beach 4' high.

Next I moved up the South Shore to Chaplin Bay which is where the Canada Day celebrations are always held in Bermuda, wall to wall Canadians drinking Canadian Beer and eating Canadian Back Bacon on a Bun, Great Party but lots of bottle tops. This hunt gave up $3.16 in clad plus a Sacquajewea $1.00 US coin (My 1st) for a total of $4.16.(One of which was a Canadian Penny - Go Figure) The wet sand was really soft and I didn't take my wet suit with me which is just as well since the surf was breaking hard and the undertow at this beach is dangerous. I also found 3 lead 3ringer bullets and 1 live round, full metal jacket. This is the beach where I found the unexploded 2" British Mortar so I'm always hesitant about digging large targets on this beach now.

My final stop on the South Shore was my faithful Horseshoe Bay Beach and it delivered the goods. There was a 12" cut at one end of the beach so I focussed all of my energy there.

In the course of an hour I pulled out of the wetsand: a Timex watch that has been in the water since at least last August based on the date displayed on the face,(my first for 2008 and my first working watch if it just needs the battery replaced) a .925 Cardaugh ring with what I assume is a CZ stone, a .925 earring with mother of pearl inlay plus $1.07 in clad which brought my total clad take today to $5.90.
