I heard of "tennis elbow".... :stretcher:

but how about "detecting shoulder"?? My right shoulder has been very sore for awhile now. I do have the ability to use my left arm to swing, but it takes awhile to get usted to doing that again. Many people can't switch arms. I have been trying to hold my shovel in my right hand to kinda remind me to use my left arm. HUnting dawn to dusk, often with big coils & a car wreck has taken it's toll I guess. Hopefully, with the heat wave & not much detecting goin' on, my shoulder is getting a well deserved break. My horseshoe playin' has gone downhill as well, as I'm rated 3rd in the county right now.... :sadwalk:

Allright==here's what i did and do, i got one of those rubber strechy exersize bands, and exersize regularly to keep my shoulders in tune, i do this many times a week and have for a # of years, can switch arms, or dig either way, really helps and only takes a few minutes whenever you do it, yew just got soft settin in that bank countin money:detecting::fisher::fisher::fisher::usaflag::usmc:

My shoulder doesn't bother me - but I do suffer from detecting elbow from too much swinging (the detector that is!!!) - probably should go to hip mount or chest mount, but I prefer it the regular way. Hawkeye Jim.

Hey Bill, Myself, and many of them Explorer Users, turned me on to Doc's Swingy-Thingy Harness.
He is one of the sponsors of the Findmall Forums (Prospecting Forum). It is a harness with a bungy cord, and can be used on any round shaft detector. They sell for $29+$5 shipping, and Doc will ship it immediately Priority Mail, and I got mine 2 days after ordering it. It is very comfortable to use, and has a suspenders still clip, that you just snap onto your hunting belt of pants belt, and you can hunt for hours without any shoulder or arm fatigue. Hope this helps,hh

Sorry to hear Bill! I trained myself to use my left arm before we went to Colchester, just changing arms for 15-20 minutes once in awhile helps the arm and shoulder. HH, Mike

Hey Bill, BrianH from Lancaster PA... haven't posted since last year because of, yep you guessed it... "detecting shoulder"! My other shoulder has it too, but minor compared to the other one. Last year was my first year with the C$ and Excel, and I just plain overdid it... hunting hours each time out until I could barely hold up the detector.

Well, I did damage to my shoulder tendons, diagnosed by holding your arm straight out with palms down and applying downward pressure. If there's severe weakness and pain across the top of your shoulder joint, you might have the same thing. It must be palms down, because with palms up your bicep does most of the work.

Treatment?... up to three months not using it. Well that was never gonna happen (stubborn goat here), so it's about halfway healed after 7 months. I just hafta be careful how I use it or it reinjures.... tendons are apparently a BEAR to heal!!

Sooo, I'll wait another 7 months or so and pick up my detectors again next year, WITH a body mount of course! :) I had many "firsts" last year (large cents, half cent, civil war buttons, etc.), so I'm anxious to take up where I left off!

So I say literally... "Take it easy!", and chat again soon :)

I'm gonna keep hunting but with the left arm for awhile. Them hopefully the right side will heal up.....thanks for the post, Bill

fortunately the left one healed first, which took a year then the second got bad and its taken almost a year for it to heal as well. The Doc said there isn't much they can do for it other then inflamation meds and try not to use it all that much.

Try a good quality joint supplement.(oops, that didn't sound right) The better ones have at least glucosamine and chondroitin (can be found reasonably priced at Sam's) and the best add MSM and a few other things. A product called Fluid Joint is excellent. Google that name and you'll find out all you want to know.
