My oldest son is into the 4th month of his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq. He is regular army (7yrs now) and is in the 3rd Armored Cavalry out of Ft. Carson, Co. This was the first I had heard from him in like 4 or 5 weeks.... so it was a true blessing for me! Again, Thank You Jesus for my son's phone call.
We have been talking about the heat on our forum and well.. folks we don't have heat here in the states I guess. He said it was 130 degrees or so there nearly every day. And, he works in Tracked Vehicle Repair. He recovers downed vehicles.... gets them back to their shop and makes the necessary repairs to them in order to place them back into service. They have been big time busy he said.... working 9 to 11 hours a day to keep things running.... mostly due to the sand. But, some of the rigs have run over land mines, or have been hit by the Improvised Explosive Devices... and requires pretty extensive repairs.
He said he was doing fine, all things considered... and his spirits seemed okay, over the phone anyhow. I pray for him daily... he is own our church's prayer list... and many other church prayer lists around and about.... due to those that know and care for him.
I really do admire him. I never served in the military... the Viet Nam war was all but wound down when I graduated from High School in 1972. And, I just can't help but be so proud of him..... he has never uttered anything negative about his service to our country... and the tours of duty he has pulled in Iraq. He even plans to re-enlist while over there... during the window that opens while he is there. He wants to take advantage of the Bonus!
I guess I just wanted to let others know how proud a Dad can be!
Be a blessing to another today,
Kim
