I hear the E-trac calling my name.

Dan(NM)

Well-known member
I sold my E-trac to try the CTX, well after 6 weeks, I think I'm going back to the E-trac. I can't find any fault with the CTX really, I just don't feel I gained that much to justify the price difference. I live in the desert, don't need a waterproof machine here. I don't hunt the woods, aren't any, don't need a GPS. Depth wise and separation in trash, I don't think the E-trac gives up much to the CTX. I don't like the idea of having to drop 250-300 bucks for A coil and another $150 for an extra lower rod. Am I nuts or what?

I came to the Etrac from a V3i and when I looked at the price and features on the CTX, I was convinced I did not need these features. Like you I won't use a GPS. or get in the water to find coins. I think those are the pricey items myself.

My CTX hangs on the wall most of the time and it's definitely faster and more feature filled but , with the Sharpshooter on the etrac and with it's tones , the etrac is just more enjoyable to hunt with. The 5 x 10 might change the CTX's characteristics enough to get me to swing it more but is $350 worth it?

I think the E-trac is the best park machine!.......The 3030..With 6"coil is killer in the trash(not sure there is a Equal).....So, I have both...But ,I use the E-trac..all the time in the parks!........Even with the 13" Ultimate coil on the E-trac..In parks...can get..pretty close in Separating trash from good.
On some of the curb strips ..I do..to me the 3030 ...( 6"coil)is better than E-trac(even with little coil)...............................I know some other guys that can blow your mind with the Explorers(thats what I use to use before E-trac)...But to me the E-trac..is my third Arm!

Or you could keep the CTX (since you truely got a heck of a deal) and get another etrac to augment your arsenal.

Similar to my gunsafe...got lots of different guns, but just because I get another one, doesn't mean I have to get rid of what I already have.

Well Dan, you have now seen the light of many who have wondered away but return back to the E-Trac ! The E-Trac IMO, does not leave behind silver to the CTX that it can not find !!!! Your also dead on about coil choices and $$$ differences. But I do like the tones of the of the "E" vrs the C much more. Welcome back Home Dan in time for Christmas !!!!:clapping:

Well a shotgun is used mainly for bird hunting and small caliber for small game, large caliber for big game , each having its own purpose. So why have two $$$ detectors that are equal in values if he does not swim ? Makes perfect sense to me to get rid of the one you don't use !!

I have the same opinion as Dan , there is virtually no difference in capability . There may be ground balance and two target trace but they are not always perfect. I sold my CTX after finding it no better though not really any worse either , it was more the cost of keeping it and future maintenance , the bulk of the machine and so on , dont need GPS and stuff and a tricky menu that made the machine seem overcrowded to me, and fewer coils for the CTX made it less flexible .
I never found the CTX faster than the ET and found the numbers slower in fact even though people say dont use the numbers , sometimes they are needed.
Right now i use my Explorer 11 with my ET in the box as a replacement for the future , even the Explorer is not much different with a Pro coil .

Dan i think you are sane , or maybe we are both nuts :) , dont answer that anyone !

From the posts I've been reading ...
It seems like the CTX has a very loyal following - but there's also a bunch of people that are selling their CTX's and going "home" to their E-Trac's.

Have you noticed of all the used CTX's out there they depreciate real Bad. Seen them as low a1k for a 2499. machine. Etrac's for as long as they've been out hold there value much better. Only thing I like better on the CTX is the Screen. :minelab:

Cant stand the CTX screen , too light coloured. If it had a screen coloured like the Whites V3i then !

i did the same thing cox over priced and over rated e-trac is the best machine i have used and i have had all of them its a silver magnet
