I hear no difference with DEEP on....

Just air tests...but I hear no difference in coins with DEEP on. I hunt in parks, so obviously I want to get the deep targets, but also need good separation. Maybe Deep only works with coins that are in the ground??????????

The deep on option will cause the weaker signals to get amplified but also the shallow signals as well.
I have tried it but it didn't seem to help me any but I am sure others use it with success. I think you should bury some coins from shallow to deep and see how these options affect performance and which options will be suitable for you. Also if you run into a weak signal while hunting, just go to that place and toggle between the settings to see what it does. I personally like the fast on but that is my preference.

Steve,

On page 86 of the Explorer II manual it gives a brief but clear explanation of what DEEP on setting does. The deep targets get amplified significantly to make them easier to hear. The shallow targets tones are not effected. I always hunt with DEEP on and I believe that a lot of other hunters do also.

HH,
Glenn

By golly you are right Glenn, it has been a while since I have played with that setting, I was going by what Andy S wrote in his book, he states that is also affects shallow targets. My overall advice though is for the user to try out these different settings to see if they become a personal preference. I would like to see more regular Explorer users post replies here on the classroom forum, including yourself so that we can be helpful to those who ask questions, it seems this is a under used forum, maybe more will join in here.

Fast and Deep both use different filters according to minelab. Ive found you arent getting much depth in trashy parks so its best to get the seperation that fast provides. Minelab tech also said the detector gets confused if you have both fast and deep on.

over 3 months and liked it. The coins seemed to lock on using digital better. But the deeper coins gave a bit of a choppy signal which often can be missed. I since have switched to deep, I want to learn both. I have had some nice deep recoveries since. I also remember seeing that having fast and deep on confuses the detector.

I have stepped away from FAST and turn on DEEP.. THe trashy areas, well I use my Joey Coil and I can get separation. I also use my NEW X-1 Probe to assist.

Turn down your gain and it is much more noticeable. At a gain of 7, I cannot tell any difference that having deep on makes. My gain has to be at 5 or lower before I can hear a difference. With deep on; the weak, deep, signals lasts longer almost like using audio long, just not as long and only effecting the deep, faint signals. Very useful in areas where clad is at 4-6 inches and older Wheaties are at 6 inches and deeper.

Id say you are correct digitrich. I know if you moved your recover to a very low recovery on the DFX it lengthend the tone. The down side was the tone didnt sound off directly over the target with a low recovery but it did lock on better. I havent really noticed that with the SE, but the book tends to say you may miss targets because of the processing.
