Guess I got kind of burned out with the sports photography business and then the weather turned crappy. But I'm shooting some baseball games next week so I ordered a new lens to reach out a bit further. The 70-200mm is pretty decent for basketball and hockey. And with a little running it even works well for football and soccer. But it was a bit short for baseball so I ordered a 400mm that just came today. Straight out of the box here are a few quick comparisons between the 70-200 f/2.8 and the 400mm f/5.6. Both were shot at f/5.6, 400 ISO at about 100 feet on a cloudy afternoon. Obviously I just stuck the lens out the front door and shot the front fender of my Jeep. I had hoped that even though the 400mm was twice as large as the 200mm that due to the fact that it was a prime it wouldn't lose any sharpness. Overall I am pretty pleased so far. So expect some baseball shots next week. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt="">
