but, it looks like everybody has an AT Pro or has had one :) What is it about this machine that seems to be so special ?

It just is.

Its special for different people for different reasons. For me its just the waterproof feature , allowing me to hunt twice the amount of locations than I used to. While its a very capable detector I wouldnt say that any of its other abilities are that special , from what I can tell after using it for one year its pretty average for a mid level detector. Great seperation and recovery speed , but some other mid range detectors have that too or atleast comparable , ..decent depth ability and target identification , but not that it would stand out from among the rest necessarily. I can say that I am very comfortable with it and it is worthy of my confidence. For newbies its just pure awesome , but for seasoned detectorists that have used many other machines it seems pretty average , though most of us are happy with it. Thats just my experience , others views may vary.

At pro is an awesome machine for the price you can't go wrong. It deals with wet sand as if it was dry land . great on mineralised ground and waterproof, great depth and once used to it, very easy to work with . I use it when the weather looks dodgy as if it rains I have no worries. I use the garrett gti 2500 in good weather on fields because of its different abilities and deep seeking all metal mode for relic hunting and coins. Hope this helps

"Worthy of my Confidence" Thats a good way to describe the AtPro when asked "what seems to make it so special" Ohiochris:clapping:

Yeah DanNM, a lot of us just sat and watched when they first came out, didnt get one right away...after a while, a guy just cant argue with results... many coil and phone options available, priced right, hits gold/silver including chains hard....It was good to see some long time detectorists get a Pro and speak highly about it...

I got my Pro based upon the thought to 'extend my season', hunt on the wet days, and wade deeper than I could get with my land rig, so thats how I justified buying it....I still use my land rig on the dirt on account of I'm so comfortable with it..

For water and beach, its the Pro all the way..the thing hits gold hard and has paid for itself quickly and constantly, and I am very Confident with it, it has proven itself to me....its such a popular rig, resale should be no problem if you ever wanted to sell it...

Like your title and still treasure my old Freedom 3 Plus machines. It does not getthe depth of the pro but an oldie and one of the best garretts I have ever swung in 44 years!

IT's Pretty VERSATILE, Very GOOD DEPTH, it's WATERPROOF to 10', GREAT COIL Selections, and it WILL FUNCTION in SALTWATER (NOT like an EXCAL or CZ-21) But Pretty
GOOD for a Single FREQ. Detector, and WORKS GREAT in FRESHWATER, ALOT of B-A-N-G for YOUR B-U-C-K!! Try to Pick Up a USED One with SOME Warranty Still on IT (I
was LUCKY Enough Too)!! Also, GREAT Back-UP Detector!! BEST of LUCK to YOU Dan, HH, Les Robinson.
