I have yet to see anything posted about big iron ID with the X-Terra 70

I know from personal experience, I too noticed big iron would come in at +45 on the X-Terra 50. I was hoping there would be more differentiation with the X-Terra 70 with the increased segments. Any comments would be most appreciated. Thank you...HH

But it will bounce from +45 to -9, will not lock on. I guess it does that since those two numbers are so close on the turn around. I usually hit the pinpoint and can tell real quick if it's iron, I have yet to find a coin at +45. All my quarters have been +42. I would imagine it will do the same thing on the XT70 and probably be more jumpy since it's more expanded but not sure. John

Then I better stay with the XT-50, my 50 don't jump at all. I will order the XT-70 for my wife, she pretty jumpy also.

The most important new feature that I feel has been added to the X70 for dealing with iron, is the machine's ability to ID targets in real time while in the pinpoint mode. I use disc patterns with iron rejected most of the time on all the X-machines. Therefore on an X50 when a 45 presented itself, I found myself going to pinpoint to center up on the target, then back out, then engage All Metal to look for negative numbers, to see if they were combined with a 45. This was a lengthy and annoying process, but otherwise having to run the X50 in AM in trashy areas was even more annoying.

Now with the X70 life has been greatly simplified, see a 48, click on pinpoint. You center up on, somewhat size, and see the ID in "real time" as you center over the target. So you can see the target wrap in real time in pinpoint mode. Much faster, much easier, and much more accurate.

Now for a bellybutton attitude about the 48 indication on an X70. On saltwater beaches that I frequent, especially after storms, there are thin iron/steel flakes that litter the beach. They range in size from dime to quarter and are usually roundish or squarish. These blasted things read as high coin on just about every machine I use. But on the X70 in AM they will consistently wrap from -8 to 48 with every pass of the coil, a tell tale signature. I don't use pinpoint in this instance because these are widely dispersed targets with nothing nearby, so AM makes short work of them.

I hunt mainly old farmsites/homesteads that are full of iron(large chunks and nails, etc...) and old trash/relics. I recently hunted an 1838 farmsite with the X-Terra 50 which was difficult, of course, for any machine as well. I have used my CZ-70 successfully here which has pulled out a bunch of nice old coins. But the X-Terra has impressed me with what it finds as well. My X-Terra 70 should be here in a few days. I have a few sites ready that I've grid hunted with my CZ-70 to go over with the X-Terra 70. I'll keep you posted. Thank you all very much  ...HH

I sure am thinking about just keeping mine and maybe just get another coil, have to decide on which one. John

Does the X-70 allow me to hunt in silent search in AM & Disc?

Do the readings jump more on the 70 than the 50?

Ok, 3 questions! Will it perform well in the wet sand at the beach, or should I just use my GT there?

Thanks,

Bill

"Does the X-70 allow me to hunt in silent search in AM & Disc?"... Yes, just lower the Threshold to '0'.

"Do the readings jump more on the 70 than the 50?"... I would say they might but I will add that the X-Terra 70 does have the TID Stabilization feature, and more room for fine-tuning the Sensitivity. Extra Noise Cancel adjustment, too, if those are some of the causes. But due to the broader-range discrimination (more segments) there can be a tendancy for some targets to jump a little.

Now, let me add that so far I haven't had any problems with my X-T 70 being "more jumpy" than my X-T 50.

"Ok, 3 questions! Will it perform well in the wet sand at the beach, or should I just use my GT there?"... I haven't been to the beach yet, but I plan to in the next few weeks, depending upon the weather. I have a feeling it will do well, however.

Having used both units on the black sand ocean beaches of the Carolinas, I'd be stretching the truth to say that the X-70 works as well as the GT . . . remember you are still comparing a single frequency detector (albeit V-Flex) with detectors using BBS technology which has proven to be a killer on salt water beaches.

With that said, the new salt GB setting does allow a higher sensitivity setting than without it; however, you will still get some falsing and chatter unless you drop the sensitivity a good bit.

The X-70 works better than other single frequency detectors but if I am doing some serious beach hunting, it will be with a Sovereign, Excalibur or FBS detector for maximum detection depth and stability. . . . . and a larger coil such as the WOT, Detech or SunRay offerings for maximum coverage and depth.
