I have the answer on the earlier question about the XS-2a meter default.

Got a Sovereign XS-2a and tried it with a 550 meter on both fixed and ID tone. The meter worked fine no matter what position of the switch. One of my latest 180 meters I made, it tested with the same results and worked flawless in either mode.

The XS2a you got must be a OK one as I seen some do fine while others dont, seem like it always been a XS2a I see the problem with on meter readings and thought maybe someone else had seen this.
BTW when changing from on to the other did you have to recalibrate the meter from one to the other?? Some I tested were off about 4 or 5 numbers when changed from one to the other.

Rick, didn't see a difference in the number variation.I made a straight rod asm and meter for the XS-2a its now on Ebay. The clutch went out on my jeep and sold the 14k ring I found a couple of weeks ago which paid for the repairs.Very rainy weather here we need a weather break to get out.Interesting find last week a ladies gold watch very deep but was plated.
