I have noticed with my Explorer...........

that when I set up programs by air testing, I get a tone on both sides of the coil (outside ring) as well as the bar in the center. When trying to pinpoint a shallow target in the dirt, it makes it very difficult. Three tones on a sweep. Do all Explorer DD coils get a tone around the perimeter as well as the center strip? Just curious. All of mine seem to do it.

it is normal to get 3 beeps when passing a target close to the coil, however in pin point mode, only a one inch strip down the center will pick the target up, not the outside ring.... so when switching to pin point you will only get one beep to a pass, unless more than one object passes over the coil..

Chris,
When you notice it is a loud surface target just raise the coil up a bit and it will only be 1 signal. The Explorer is just sensitive and will see the target on the edges too, but the center is more sensitive and by raisng the coil only the center will respond.
Another little trick to use if you get too many alum cans is when you get a louder signal, just raise the coil 6 inches or more and if it dont make too much difference it is a bigger target.
