I have had my MXT for four months now and

I got to say it is the best machine I have used too date. Not that i have used alot of detectors, the short list is White's 6000/coin master, White's IDX Pro, Tesoro Silver Umax, and the MXT. All very good machines but to tell you the truth the MXT smokes them. I have found more good stuff with the MXT than all three machines together. I used the IDX Pro the longest and found a ton of coins but not like the MXT. I have found just over 1500 coins( 3 Buffalo,3 wheats,3 merc's,3 rosie's) and 5 rings (silver), 6 earrings, 10 pendants.
It is amazing how small a target can be and still give a good signal.
I typically run my MXT in
Mode: Relic
Trac: Ground
Gain: 9-10
Dual Control: 3
Threshold: barely audible
I definitely prefer the high/low tone of relic over the coin/ jewelry but will I miss coins and jewelry because I prefer to run it like this????
I have a friend that used to have a MXT when they first came out( he know runs a EXII) and he said that I will miss some coins and jewelry because I run in Relic Mode.
I thought that is just a way to hear the same targets differently!!!????
Please let me Know what you guys think.
Thank you Much and HH

That is just the way I run my MXT too in relic mode and feel with the 2 tones makes it so much easier to use and to me I feel my depth is greater in the relic mode also.
The MXT is a great detector and found it to be the best Whites I have used in my 32 year of detecting.
I use a Minelab Sovereign GT and the Explorer XS II as my main detector and my wife uses the MXT when I am not using it.
Good luck
Rick

and you'll get what you missed.... The little DD is an awesome coil, able to "sniff" out coins that are masked when using a bigger coil... Have fun, Richardntn

I have this coil and I plan on using it alot this month. My favorite coil has been the 10 X 6 Eclipse DD. I really dont care if it gets 5% less depth than the stock coil it moves through and around the stuff where I hunt better. The only place where I feel the stock coil is an advantage is wide open grass. I dont use it much since I bought the DD.

I like the Sovereign as far as getting the most accurate ID between coins and iron as it hates iron. The Explorer I like the depth and the things it can do, but find too many nails sound just like a good coin, so I do dig more trash with it.
The tones on the Sovereign are easier to hear and tell the difference in, but the Explorer can tell you if it is a quarter or a dime while the Sovereign can not.
I like the Sovereign as it is more user friendly and it is a basically a turn on a go detector while the Explorer you have to adjust it to you hunting area or type of hunting you do.
These are both great detector that takes some time to get used to, but if I had to chose between them I feel I would chose my Sovereign GT with the Sun Ray meter and the S1 probe.
Now for the detector that is the most fun to use than I would take my MXT as it does good for me and my wife. Maybe it does better for my wife as she beat my oldest US coin with her 1841 seated dime, while my oldest was a 1842 seated dime. She also got the only large cent found in our club too in the last 3 years with her MXT.
