I Have Gotten My Hands On A Garrett Scorpion Metal Detector And It Should Be Here Soon :jump:

Another machine on its way. (one can never own too many :)) I have always admired this metal detector. It's been around for some time, and I know many people have found gold nuggets with it. It was always marketed as a gold seeking metal detector, but it is very unique in that it also doubles up as a great coin hunter too. It has a true all metal mode, which should give some nice depth. I know on GTI 2500 and Grandmaster CX each have a true all metal mode and I utilize it all the time. It's one of those extras that sets it apart from other machines. The Scorpion also has a TR mode, great for target separation in trashy areas and a motion discriminate for coin searching. This detector utilizes a uses a Garrett patented Groundhog 15 kHz circuitry which should make the machine more sensitive to gold rings. I am going to take this machine to some of my favorite spots and see how it checks out. :)

Looking forward to seeing some of your finds:detecting:.

Man you have a lot of Garrett detectors! Which do you hunt with most? I know different machines for different hunts, but what is your go to detector?

The ACE 250/Large coil for snow hunting, as I can keep the batterys warm with a hot pack. The ACE 250 for large sports fields using the large coil, the ACE 150 or ACE 250 to compliment my GTI 2500 for woods hunts. The ACE 250 or ACE 150 sniper coil to work the cut at a beach. The Infinium to work water, from shallow to 6 feet. The GTP 1350 to hunt normal school yards. The Master Hunter CX for the odd flat woods hunts and school playgrounds, as it can get closer to the equipment then my ACE large coil or GTI 2500. I usually also take an ACE 250/Sniper to compliment my CX. And any one of these as a backup or in case somebody at work wants to borrow one for a lost item or camping trip. Also, when somebody is interested in buying a Garrett, I let them tag along for a hunt. Sometimes I ask a house owner if he wants to hunt also, in which case I let him use one of thew ACES. The ACE 150 was previously modified for water hunting, however, it is now back to being a land machine. Certain machines just work better in certain environments.

The Scorpion has a TR circuit, which isn't the deepest, it is really good for trash areas with iron nails, as it can pic up coins beside and sometimes even underneath nails. The discrimination mode has some pretty good depth, so it also works well as a coin hunter. The true all meta mode (with manual ground balancing) will get even better depth, and with a flick of a switch, you can go back and forth between true all metal mode and discrimination mode, a feature I am really looking at. So.....it is like buying two metal detectors for the price of one. I can't think of any other gold machine out there that also doubles as a coin hunter. And this machine has knobs, instead of buttons. My Freedom ACE Plus from many years back also had knobs and it was a lot of fun to play with. The nice thing about using different Garretts is that the learning curve is swift as some of them carry a lot of similarities. The customer service is excellent and should your machine ever require serving after the warranty expires, they are VERY reasonable for their repair charges.

The less descrimination you use on any machine = more depth. It just depends on how much noise you can stand in your headphones!! The 'Stinger does have a true All-metal, I tried it once and right back to Disc mode I went. I can still get plenty of depth in Disc mode!! I like mine for a relic machine as it hits that lower conductivity stuff real hard. And not too shabby on gold jewelry either!!

Interesting. Why the 1350 over the 2500 or 1500 for playgrounds? Weight? I only use my 2500 now. Every hunt, every situation. I am using my 4.5 inch coil more and more and finding lots of previously missed items. I think I want a water machine next and I'm looking at the Infinium. I have printed most of your posts about that particular machine. I'll probably wait until 2009. I made a personal promise to myself no MD expenditures over 100 dollars until then.
