I have been thinking of buying a minelab explorer xs for a while. I already have a fisher cz7. but I want to know if it is worth buying a new explorer or not? will i really find more or just have a more expenive detector. I havebeen using my fisher for two years and I am very good at finding things. so i know all of you will say the minelabe is better but try to be far.

I have used the explorer for the past few seasons and the answer is ....in the beginning you will find less....in the middle you will find about the same....and in the end you WILL find more. If you are willing to sacrifice some hunting time in learning this detector you won't be sorry. I think the most valuable asset to the Explorer over the other high end detectors is not the added depth, (it helps) but the fantastic disc. circuit. I spend far less time digging iron in my old sites compared to all the previous detectors I have used. Once you know this thing it is unbelievable the confidence you have in finding whats there. I love digging and and have no problem spending a good amount of $$$ on a detector and what do I have.
TWO EXPLORERS!

dose ot really go deeper than my fisher? my father has a sov xs 2apro and the disc is great. i was thinking of buying a used one. see i leave for the army in a year. so do you thhink i should do it?

I have detected with a friend who has a Fisher 7a and and I would probably give a little advantage to the Explorer on coins but a much bigger advantage on smaller targets. By far the biggest difference would be how much better the Explorer IDs the deep stuff. I never did must direct testing ex vs cz but did compare quite a bit when I had my GTI. You have a good detector so if $$$ is a factor don't sweat it, on the other hand if its burning a hole I think you would be very happy with the move.

and I am not bashing that detector in any way because when I was using a Fisher 12-25x I had it pretty well mastered and was digging old stuff pretty deep, then he would come up behind me and pull good coins deeper. But now since March I have been using an Explorer and out of 7 hunts I have "won" 5 of the 7. I think alot of it is his smaller coil 8" to my 10 12" and the time he spends chasing deep nails...the iffy ones. But in 3 months I've owned this detector, using the knowledge I have gained from the book by Andy Sabasch and the great posting on these forums I dig an indian head or a piece of silver 90% of the time I go out in an area heavily hunted by many other brands of detectors. This is where the Explorer really shows it's stuff, especially when the WOT is on there from what I have been reading . If you go with the XS I'm sure you won't be dissappointed, discrimination is great and depth is amazing. Good luck and HH, Greg.
P.S. If you get an Explorer I warn you...you will miss it almost as much as your girl . Thank you for serving and protecting our country.
