So, its looks like I'll be joining the ranks of the Teknetics forum.
Welcome to the Tek Team Forum! I'm sure that in time, as you master the Omega, you'll discover it is a lot of detector in a light and handy package.

I got a good deal on a like new used one with the two coils, (standard and the 11" DD) it still has the screen protector film on it.
The "standard" coil is my favorite general cruising coil. The 11" DD is okay, but just not for me and the types of sites I usually hunt. Screen protector film? I just helped another customer put one together the other day and I didn't see a protective film.

Is there any tips for a new Omega user like, Don't
1..
Give up on the Omega,
2..
Forget to use the best coil for the task-at-hand,
3..
Hesitate to work with the 1 and 2 Tone ID options
4..
Sweep too quickly, especially in trashy sites or high mineralization
5..
Forget to share the things you learn with others who read and follow this Teknetics Forum

1..
Include helpful info in your posts, such as the Ground Phase for the site you hunt, Sensitivity and Discrimination settings, and Tone ID choice.
2..
Mention the search coil you chose to use at a site ... and why.
3..
Invite some of us to hunt a choice, private site with you.

If it does this in your area just
1..
Be patient when you get those questionable responses or TID/VDI readings and (as with all detectors) learn the strengths of the Omega.
2..
Learn the '99' & '40'-range fluctuations. If you encounter smaller, thin foil you might get that high '99' VDI but ti will also produce a '40s' VDI on repeat passes. Seldom good, generally foil.

Is this detector as good as the review claims with the 11" DD coil? (you know, don't walk to the store and by this coil, RUN!)
I'd suggest you RUN ...... That is, run out and get the 5" Double-D coil to compliment the two you have. Surprising performance, surprising depth of detection, and it works great!
My main two coils of choice with my Omega are the stock elliptical concentric and 5" Double-D. I am still working with the 5X10 elliptical DD and will probably make it be my replacement for the 11+" DD. I hunt too many brushy sites and prefer the smaller size and solid-body design. It won't, however, replace the standard and 5" DD on my Omega. it will be a 3rd coil choice for me.

Now I'm not new to detecting by no means, I do have five other detectors and I've been in/out of detecting for two or three decades now.
So, I'm just looking for anything that some seasoned Omega users have had to deal with that may be Omega specific.
Here we differ. i have been IN, and never OUT, of metal detecting for 48 years now. There are a few discontinued detectors from a couple of manufacturers that I still really like. There are a number of current-production detectors that are very impressive and I use them as well. Then in the winter/spring of 2010 I was encouraged by two detector dealers to try the Omega. They asked for my opinions and I had none having not used one.
Well, I am always eager to try a lot of detectors that enter the market and often I have been unimpressed. In March of 2010 I ordered a 3-coil package Omega and, quite frankly, things changed for me as I compared the Omega with the top three models in my detector arsenal. Models that I still really like, sell, and use personally. But they were complimented by the Omega because it works well and I often make it the first detector I grab out of my van.
As for being 'specific' with tips or suggestions, it isn't easy. We all hunt different types of sites and different trash conditions, and many of us have different patience or tolerance levels. So, my only workable suggestion is to be as patient as I am, give the Omega a serious chance to prove itself like I did, and even with another model to two or three in your arsenal, continue to enjoy and appreciate what the Omega can do for you. That's what it does for me.
Best of success and be sure to report in on your impressions and success afield.
