It is amazing to me, how many people out there are taking up metal detecting, and how many have been doing it since the early machines came out. What amazes me even more, is the number of people in my own community that hunt. I have made new friends from old neighbors through my metal detecting, and finding more and more people with machines closeted due to the lack of time or experience in detecting. In my case, my "buddies" and I are going to invest our time and experience in starting a club in the area. Inviting all who would have the "want to", attitude when it comes to treasure hunting and sharing information with each other, learning and building upon newfound friendships in the process. One such friend, a 64 year old hard headed ex-police chief, has helped me tremendously, his spirited attitude and zeal for the art of detecting has been proven time and time again in the field. He found a High School ring belonging to a fellow who had lost it over 35 years ago, contacted family members after a little investigating and returned it.....honesty and integrity has to be the two major factors to a successful detecting Club. I just thought I would share this with everyone, maybe there are others who have experienced things that would warrant sharing, as for me, I know that we will continue to grow in the detecting field, gaining a lot of helpful training as we go on....and new friends that will be willing to help us as we go. Jack.
