since there are no serial numbers on it. Also, what does the update do to the machine or consist of exactly?

Mike, hold down the menu button and press the pinpoint switch forward with the T-2 off then turn it on while still holding the menu and pinpoint switch forward and it should read on the display 6.0 from what I was told by others on here is the new dp tone mode for bottlecaps. sens. adj. for pinpoint mode. coil and battery ????
not sure about the last two. someone can help you more with that. it is in a post here on this forum somewhere.I have only had mine about 3 weeks.
