Suppose I am in an area where the gold is embedded in the rock or quartz.
How do youy get the gold out? Is there a process? Or do you just let the people
you sell your gold to worry about that?

I know one guy who crushes it untill it's like suger or a powder. all I know. HH

It all depends on how rich the ore is ,If it is visible gold sometimes it is worth more as a specimen, if is lower grade free milling ore it needs to be milled and seperated by gravity. If the gold is detectable it should be visible to the naked eye. Small amounts can be hand crushed using a motar & pestil and panned.

Since I don't think your going to build a milling stamper (ore crusher). I would put the material in a very heavy duty cloth/burlap/synthetic fabric sack. Use a sledgehammer to crush. And absolutely, at all times, be wearing high quality (rated) full coverage safety goggles or full face mask. Preference is full face mask so face is also protected. Not just your eyes. The cloth can then be run through water to capture any gold residue that may be trapped in it.
Just be sure to practice total safety when doing this.
Hobo brings up a good point. Quartz specimen gold can be more valuable if just left as is.

Putting it a fabric bag would not work, it would destroy the bag and the ore would not be ground fine enuf and scattered all over ,The finer the ore is crushed the better the recovery. The easiest and cheapest way is to use a motar and pestil and a couple of screens, 40 mesh and pan the gold. This is the method I us, I hunt old mine tailing and recover quite a lot of gold this way. Found one fist sized rock awhile back that had over 4 oz's in it
