I have a question for our Explorer experts

I have a question for those of you who have used an explorer for a few years. What is the deepest coin you have found, and with what size coil were you using?

it was a barber quarter at a measured 11 inches.. good repeatable signal... found with a safari and pro coil..

Mark ( ohio )

I have only found one coin that was over 5 inches or so deep, and it was a barber dime at a true 10 inches, reapeatible good signal with the pro coil. I was just thinking about this lastnight, it was my third silver coin. I never even find junk or trash items deeper then say 5 inches anymore, i seriously wonder if my machine is messed up

I have found a handful of coins over the years (probably under 10) from a measured depth of 12". Those coins include wheaties, silver dimes, silver quarter, and a silver dollar.
The coils I used to find them were the minelab pro coil, 10 x 12 SEF Coil, and 10 x 14 Excelerator coil.

I have found numerous coins from a true measured depth of 11"...and those coins include wheaties, injuns', silver dimes, silver quarters, etc.
The coils that found me 11" deep coins were: 10 x 12 SEF, Minelab pro, 15" Coiltek WOT, Detech Ultimate 13", 12 x 15 SEF

The deepest coin I've ever found with a small coil (6" or less) was a 10" deep silver dime.

Here are some links to a few of the hunts showing some of the actual coins I'm speaking of......

The deepest coin I've found with my XS and the Sunray Stealth X-5 coil was a Barber dime at 7"...but here in the Carolina's I've noticed that's pretty good considering the clay factor, plus it was pretty dry at that. I'd love to hear if anyone has found any coins deeper in the clay and what coil they were using....thanks for the question bugg.

[size=large]the deepest i have found is 6" w/ SEF 8x6 coil. sound was very strong. i believe i would have found it even if it were down to 8" with that coil. deepest coin i have found around here is 8" with another machine & coil. it too was very strong. it's just i'm not finding anything deeper if there is any to be found.

Explorer II stock coil, Utah tax token about 8 inches down in the sand. I am now in need of a replacement coil and wondering what to get. I was thinking of getting rid of the Explorer but I just cant do it.

I was sold on depth on the first outing with my (then) new XS. I was detecting a park, and had used my Excalibur enough to realize that you pay attention to even the tiny signals. That is what it was a tiny "good" signal with a null on either side. I dug, and dug, and dug some more. Finally I took about a three inch stab in the center of the hole. The coin was on the bottom of the chunk stuck to my Leche. I put the digger back into the hole and it was about half an inch from the top of the hole. It was only a wheet cent - but it was ID'ed correctly at approximately 12". This was using the standard XS coil.

I have dug deeper coins using the WOT - where I would have to dig a plug of say 8", then dig another 6" or so in order to get the SR probe to hear the target! Some of the targets had to be in the 15" range. It has to be fairly clean to use that big of a coil and pick out that deep of a coin.

I have no experience with some of the other coils that are popular now. I have to put weight over depth with my aging arms/back/bod...
