I have a question about that large ring that I found yesterday: Someone suggested that its metallic content is coin silver....I acid tested the ring

if the silver aicd test kit is effective only on 925 silver...

I 'm hoping that the ring is coin silver...that would make it really old...love those old treasures

If anyone can advise me on this , it is greatly appreciated

I'd suspect you should get a reaction on .900 silver. But, try your acid on a silver coin. This will tell you for sure how your acid reacts to .900 silver. One other thing - how does the ring register on your detectors' discrimination?

For what it's worth, I've never seen any type of genuine silver marked with just "Silver". Any time I've seen the word Silver it is preceded by German, Mexican, Alaskan, Nickel, Afghan, etc. These are all names for an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc.........but no silver.

Interesting to me is that there is some type of manufacturer's marking inside the band; either an "O" or a "U"..and three tiny stripes ( looks like a bird's foot imprint) on either side of the letter.

Here's a pic as best as I could photograph it; you can also see that the ring had been resized.
