I have a Pioneer 505 question

The Pawnshop in my town has a Pioneer 505 with 8 inch and 4 inch coil. I think that they want about $180 for it. Does anyone think it is worth that for a used one. I have owned alot of other detectors, but have never owned a Bounty Hunter. I am looking for a back up unit. Does this unit get decent depth on a silver dime? There is precious little on youtube about the 505.

kellyco sells the 505 in their scratch n dent for 150 00 new w/ 5year warranty sniper approx 40 oo new so 180 for a used one seems high to me with no warranty id offer 140 00 at best w/ both coils and yes 505 has good depth on dimes i have a land star and my friend has a 505 both machines are pretty much the same

I just sold my 505 with 4" and 8" for $150 Personally I would just go in and ask if they would take $150 for it I always get them to drop quite a bit. recently I saw a Tesoro Lobo in Pawn for $200 and told them I would give them $150....sold :clapping: Now i have a $500-$600 machine for $150 lol Good Luck. BTW the 505 has great depth and is a good machine but I didn't like the excessive beeping.

Hi deliveryboy,
I checked the scratch n dent section and could only see a 505 in stock for $199.00. I checked it out and it's as good as new!

Good hunting!

Oh thanks but I am not looking for one, I was recommending the original poster try to negotiate with the pawn shop as I did for my Lobo. I haven't checked your scratch and dent section nor did i know it even existed. may havve to take a look and see what you have, love your site :)

Thanks deliveryboy,

Have you checked out mobile site? We just put up our mobile site for folks with iPhones and Androids.

I've had the B.H. Pioneer 505 Pro for several years and I would recommend it..I've found thousands of coins, jewelry and relics with it. It does have excessive beeping (falsing) in certain enviorments but over time I've learned how tone them down, tweaking the settings so I didn't have the endless frustration. Mostly it's on a beach (mineralization) or the mulched areas in playgrounds where it acts up the most. My question is..how will it respond to Platinum?? Will it ring in higher like silver or grunt in the low range like gold?? We've..my fiance and I have been asked to find a lost Platinum wedding band in a friends yard. It's been in the ground for about 6 yrs... in the heat of a marital spat, the young man flung his ring into the backyard, it's been there ever since. They didn't know anyone with a detector..till now and we hope to reunite him with his lost ring....yes they are still together, lol, she has forgiven him for losing it. He bought a silver band to replace it but is hoping and praying that soon he'll be able to wear his ring again that his lovely bride slipped on his finger the day they became one. I've found Ster. Silver rings and Gold rings before so I'm familiar with how they will sound off but I've never found Platinum so I'm at a loss what I'm looking for. The yard is full of everything, it's been around a longggggg time..we've found lots of coins..modern, old, foreign, matchbox cars, a metal..I'm thinking pewter soldier figurine, and your usual ton of junk...lots of junk, lol.

The first couple days I just scanned to get a feel for what was in the ground, seeing what readings I was getting. Then I started digging strong targets in the gold and silver range plus the coin targets, no ring. Being unsure what it would register as, I went back and started digging targets I passed on for various reasons but noted their locations ..so far, still no ring. If anyone has found Platinum jewelry before could you give me a hint what range it showed as. This is a huge backyard and it will be forever to scan and dig every target, he kinda thought he remembered which direction he flung it, that's where I concentrated but it's still a no-show...then, going back and re-scanning again after all the easy targets show themselves. Thanks in advance if anyone can help me :cheekkiss: Susie

Welcome to the forum! If you don't get many responses. maybe try putting your request in its own new thread.

I would ask at a pawn shop or jewelers if they have a similar-size platinum ring you could get a reading from. Take your detector with you in the car and bring it in if they agree. If the store that sold the ring is close, try there first.

I did a search for electrical conductivity of metals. That seems to place them in about the same order as the IDs the detector provides. Platinum is about the same as nickel electrically, so that's likely where it will read, just above the iron range.

Hi Susie q,

The best way would be to place a similar ring in the same ground where you believe you lost yours, and tune your detector to pick it up. Then you'll know that your detector is targeted for that type of metal in ground with the same level of mineralization.

Good luck!

Tie some dental floss to the ring, before planting it!

my bounty hunter 1D/505 stopped beeping, installed new alk. batterys, please help

The 1D-505 is an older model that's very different from the Pioneer 505. I suggest you contact the company or at least post your help request in a new topic. off hand, I'd check the coil plug-in first, since you've already installed new batteries.
