I have a new MXT and I have a BIG question

OK, Let me start off by saying that I have used the MXT a little bit and I have found a couple of handful of Civil War relics. I have to say my main machine is the MineLab SE but I really want to start using the MXT. Why? I guess because of all the hype. One man that has used the MXT for several years told me that I was crazy for tying to lay down the ML for the MXT and that if he had the money as much as he like his MXT he would rather have the ML, and I did not know this man at all I had just met him at a hunt I had been on.... I guess I have to see for myself. My biggest question is the 6x10 DD coil the way to go? If so why? It seems that 6-7 out of 10 if not 8-10 people seem to prefer it over the stock coil and the 12" spider coil. Can you guy elaborate on this for me. Thanks a bunch.

I always start out with the 6X10 if I am in an area I am not familiar with. If I find it is trashy then it will help me pick through it. If I find it is not trashy, the 6X10 can still cover ground pretty well and if I hit a trashy area I am prepared. If I am attacking a large area with little trash I will put on the Super 12 which I have only recently purchased. Finding a very trashy area that I still want to hunt I will put on the 4X6. With all that being said I have made my deepest finds with the stock coil although the verdict is still out for me on the Super 12 not having used it much yet.

Now another good reason for the 6X10 would be for heavy iron and heavy mineralized ground like I had in Virginia. The footprint is deep but narrow so there is less nasty ground for it to see through making it more stable.

I believe the 6X10 is the best all purpose coil to keep on at all times unless hunting conditions allow for the stock or Super 12 coils.

The 6X10 is a bit nicer to swing and slips thu trash better than the 9.5 and larger. Separates goodies and trash a bit better as well. May lose a bit of depth in mild soil over the stock, but gains it back and maybe then some in mineralization. I've used it in effectively an extremely trashy park where I found the 9.5 useless. It doesn't beat out the 4X6 or the 5.3 in the trash however, but gets more depth than either.

I agree with Tin Nugget except for the Super 12. I use my 6x10 to cover ground qiuckly and the little 4x6 otherwise. Me and the Super 12 just didn't get along.

I'm not interested in the 12" Super Coil myself because it looks to me like it won't pinpoint any better than the stock coil and pinpointing with the stock has always been a pet peeve of mine. I use a 6X10 DD ninety percent of the time anymore because it pinpoints so much easier for me. If they had designed the 12" to have a small center hole and a tight pinpoint I would buy one in a heartbeat for hunting the better ground up in Tennessee.
