i have a new M6 on its way

Not new, but I have one coming too. I am going to bolt the Bigfoot on and do some clad and jewelry hunting again, something I have shied away from the last several years.

I really think you will like yours.

you are going to really enjoy.

I am a fan of the MXT's especially the MXT Pro which is my main-use White's detector. When I had an early MXT and got wind of the pending M6, I was kind of excited because I like 'simple.' The M6 really is a 'simple' detector, and in a nicely balanced package. It's just an abbreviated MXT/MXT Pro that was developed from the MXT especially for most day-to-day Coin Hunters. The only gripe I have with it, and most White's models, is that they come with a standard search coil that is too large.

The stock 950 is fine for hunting more open areas, like a beach or wide-open park lawns. Most coin hunting, however, is done in trashier sites so a smaller-size search coil is really important. My favorite is the 6

I bought one a couple weeks ago for a second machine, and it is simple and goes deep. One good thing, even with the 950 coil, is that it is really a fast machine. It is very loud without HPs though, especially PPing. If it had a volume control besides reducing sensitivity, it would be darn near perfect. I am not a HP user by preference but I have adapted to phones with this machine. I have to run mine hot to get the deep stuff, and the M6 dances when hot. You will like the M6! martin

Try sticking a decal or piece of clear tape over the speaker holes.

I'd find it tacky to slap tape or decals on a new $699 machine. I see the theory though, and might end up with something more glamorous over the speaker of my used one. Velcro maybe, something stackable of physical volume control changes. Black would be a good color. Oh well, it is what it is. martin

The M6 was the detector that got me started in the hobby. It is awesome with the 10x12 SEF butterfly coil for medium trashy urban areas. It goes incredibly deep. There is no lag time or latency with this detector, it processes targets very fast, and it hits really hard on modern steel clad coins. It is especially good at finding our Canadian Loonies and Toonies ($1 and $2 clad coins). Paired with a good set of headphones the M6 is a power tool.

The M6 will find you so many coins. The tone ID is awesome.
My only M6 complain also is the lack of volume control. It is very loud. I use a piece of painters tape to quiet it down a bit.
I just added the D2 coil to my M6. So far I am liking it, although the VDI's and depths are a bit off from the 9.5 stock.

One bit of advice.... Don't get the 4x6 inch coil. It's a killer on the back...digging all those targets in the trashy areas!!!
