I have a good question about a coil............

I have a backup metal detector, a Fisher 1225X that was manufactured in California, not one of the later ones manufacturered in China. I recently purchased a used 5" coil from a gentleman that said he used it on a 1236-X2. I received the coil and mounted it on the 1225-X. When I turned the metal detector on, it does nothing...appears to be dead, even the battery check will not work. I took it off the metal detector and remounted the original 8" coil and everything works properly. I checked and made sure that the spring was not shoved up into the connector, the pins in the connector appears to be the same on both coils. When the 5" coil was mounted on the detector, I wiggled the connector and the coil wire where it went into the coil, nothing happened, no sound.

Is is possible that this is not a 1200 series coil, and if so, is there any way to tell...there are no markings on the coil other than the "Fisher" decal on the top of the coil. Any other suggestions? Any feedback would be appreciated. Kelley (Texas) :)

Kelley,

Actually the Fishers were either manufactured in California or after that Texas. As per Dave J. nothing (except one line of bounty hunters) was every made in China, so unless your saying Texas is the new China, I would dispel the notion that the newer Fishers are from China

At any rate, regarding your coil, the 5" coils on the CZ, as well as the F-Series look the same. Do you have a closeup photo of the coil connector, perhaps we can tell what machine it's from based on the connector.

I was talking about the 1225X which was made in China after 2002. When Fisher sold to First Texas, the contract for manufacturing the 1225X in China was cancelled. Kelley (Texas)

My bad. I checked the post from Dave J., and it was only pertaining to the BH line:

"Bounty Hunter is manufactured in El Paso, Texas, with the exception of one low end product some of which was manufactured in China for a little while but I don't think we're importing them any more."

Both connectors and end views appear to be the same to me...if this is correct, can I assume that this is a defective coil? :)

Pictures of the actual 5" coil, connector, and end view of the connector.

Pictures below of the connector and end view of the connector are for the original 8" coil.

sounds like the 5" 'hockey puck for the cz!...try it on a cz and determine if it works on THAT application!

CZ is male pins in the plug and female in the socket, the 1225 is just the reverse..
My guess there is a broken wire in the coil cable....

I checked my CZ 5" coil and like BJ stated the pins are male, and I checked my F-Series 5" coil and while the pins are female, the connector is different.

I'm not sure which pins on the CZ are xmit and rcv, but if you have an ohm meter, you could check the continuity on your known good coil and compare it to the 5" coil.

just reversed from the type on this coil. I have finally come to the conclusion that this coil is probably defective. I do thank you for your time and effort in trying to help. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)
