I have a 6000 DI/pro and need to know a good general setup for coin hunting all I seem to find is beer tabs and other trash....Thanks for your help

It seems that all I find is junk and I'm not sure if I have my detector set up correctly does anyone have any suggestions for a setup for hunting coins? Thanks

Tabs are always gonna be a pain in the butt, but your meter should help you there, for coins. If you disc out tabs, you will lose rings. If you are only after coins, just dig the solid, repeatable high-metered targets that indicate something in the coin range. You will learn the machine, and that is a very good machine.

look at column on left also programs for xlt i'am not sure how the 6000 is set up.hope this helps http://66.51.97.78/jb/

Can use the preset marked positions on the knobs to get going or set it up like Monte suggests in about the 10th post down on the following thread: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?31,1042718

With the similar XL Pro I'm finding that the meter pointer for me on nickles points mostly from 18 to 26. Zinc penny from 42 to 60 depending on how eaten up it is. Copper Lincoln memorial and wheat cents 62 to 66. Dimes 64 to 70. Quarters 76 to 82. Haven't hit silver coins, Indian cents or gold yet with this detector. Deeper or on edge targets tend to be slightly lower meter reading than shallow targets, but not much. Square tabs and eraser ferrules run from 22 to about 34. Beaver tail pull tabs between 40 and 50 if the ring part is whole and not cut.

Squashed soda cans that are 3 inches or more down ID like dimes and depth reading on the detector is often 1 to 2 inches max. but they are really deeper. Real shallow cans pinpoint as very large targets and ID like a quarter. Many foil balls do ID like nickles.

If you want to coin shoot and don't care about finding gold, narrow the ID ranges you dig to right at nickle and at and above penny. Don't take the numbers I have as gospel. They are generally the ranges I am finding in the dirt I am hunting. The more you dig the more you will see where your targets are ranging. Other nearby targets will skew the numbers. Tonight I had a high end dime reading. Dug a zinc penny then checked the hole and ID'd a quarter and I dug that quarter a little deeper.

If you want older coins, research sites and find old places that are likely to have old targets and expect to see meter readings that don't exactly match what the modern coins ID at. Gold jewelry can ID pretty much anywhere in the foil, nickle, tab range.
Enjoy your detector, be patient and persistent.
Cheers,

Also, keep in mind that the meter is setup for the stock 950 coil...Anything else will skew your readings a little bit. You will probably note that zinc pennies come in BELOW penny. Also be aware that some SILVER dimes will ID as a high penny. Some DEEP silver dimes will give a "dig" signal in one direction & a broken "no dig" in the opposite. DIG 'UM!

If I'm in an "old" area, I dig everything that IDs deeper than 3"...Even odd nickel signals. Watch quarter signals & their depth indication...Can Slaw?
