Hi all,
I just registered on this forum and wanted to say hi and let you all know a little about who I am. Well I'm a Canadian and live in northern Ontario. I'm 47 years old and have been a forest fire fighter for the past 17 years. I had a metal detector when I was young, I think it was a Heath Kit, but didn't find much. Probably due to the detector and my young age. I collect ancient Roman coins of the Flavian dynasty, namely sesterces of Vespasian, Titus, and Domitian. Of course there are no ancient coins here in Canada but it has rekindled my interest in detecting and the hunt for basically anything old and interesting. Of course the odd gold or silver ring would be nice too. I've been reading this forum for a while now and have probably learned enough about detecting now to finally buy a unit and start learning hands on. I think I plan on buying a Garrett Ace 250 as my first MD and see where it takes me. Seems like a good bunch of people here that don't take themselves tooo serious and know how to have fun.

I look forward to the experience,
Dave

P.S. My dream in life is to MD in some of the countries in Europe that still allow it and to find an ancient roman coin.

Welcome our friend in the North...........an Ace 250 will be a nice starting detector..or in your case reacquainting detector

Hello Dave I have an Ace 250 and would have to agree with you. Hunting in Europe looking for old items would be awesome.

Welcome Dave...Selection of the first detector niot as critical as having the patience and STAMINA of learning it well. I love my old Bounty Hunter 3300 and have done amazingly well. I figured I needed a small edge and have upgraded to the Fisher F4 which is a similar enough machine and takes the same coils.

I've heard good things about the Ace 250 and I'm sure you can't go wrong there. Just be patient..the stuff is out there. Research locations and enjoy the hunt even when it doesn't always work out like planned because FOR SURE there will be times where it will exceed your expectations!

Dave, the Ace 250 is a great metal detector for a seasoned hunter or beginner. All metal detectors requires patients and time to learn. This forum has a lot of great people from beginners to professionals.Enjoy your new hobby

Hi Dave, I think I've got you beat though... I'm newer than new, because I've never hunted yet and still don't have my detector. It should be delivered this week and I can't wait to find ANYTHING! Even a pulltab will do for now, however I'll probably change my mind on the junk stuff real soon. Anyways, welcome and HH!!

Oh yes you will..............Really quick I would imagine !!! Good luck on your first hunt...

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about the late welcome but I just saw the post. Lots of good people here, good luck and HH

I guess I should update. I ordered the Minelab X-Terra 70 but the ground here is already starting to freeze so it may be the spring before I can try it out.
