I went out last saturday and got my first gold ring. I was about done for the night. I was in a 4-h arena where they show 4-h animals.Over the last 3 months i have been detecting in there and in the beef barn next to it. I was even able to detect there while there was 2 ft. of snow on the ground outside.i think i have prolly taken 15.oo dollars from this barn. Anyway I was almost done for the night and decided to detect my way towards the door. right as i put my hand on the door knob i got a hit. it wasn't a strong hit but since i was leaving and it was my last chance for the night i decided to dig it. At about 3 inches waaaalaaaa! Black hills gold ring. it was flat i think it read vdi 6. It wasn't a consistent solid good tone. All i have been digging to this point have been repeatable solid sounds. I'm thinking because it is kinda wire gold, and was flat that that is why it wasn't consistent, but i don't know. I brought it home and went to my wife and said, "shes really proud of the weight i've lost but especially proud of this". <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> LOL,She laughed.Anyway hope you enjoy the pic. If so, how did you steady the ring?
Great weather coming! I'll E-mail today (Friday) about my next jaunt that way.

Ben,
NICELY DONE !!!!!!!!
You are correct on your thoughts on the VDI reading. This is not a solid substance but has open areas.
Your post is valuable to all of us. Probably 95% of the time that reading would be junk but your post proves "you just don't always know".
I guess this element is what makes this hobby not only challenging but also frustrating at times.
Thanks for sharing and HH,
Johnny B
