When researching a new midpriced detector I stated I wanted a detector that would accurrately TID a coin at 6". Yesterday I got my deepest coin yet. It was a quarter at 6" with a locked on 88 reading. I found 9 quarters yesterday and none were "state" quarters at a football field. From shallow to 6". I was also in the most mineralized ground I have tried with a 53 GB. I am sure in better ground it will go deeper. I was using disc about 10 and 85 sensitivity and 4 tone.
I am happy.
I also discovered something not so good. My hearing loss does affect my detecting ability. It was quiet where I was at and I barely heard the high tone. I don't stare at the screen as I detect. If it had been noisy I would have not heard it. I have probably missed targets in town because of this.
It looks like I will need to get some Black Widows when It cools off. I have heard these headphones are the best for getting the quiet signals thru. No way could I use full headphones in this heat. I am currently using Koss lightweight headphones. It was close to 100 degress by noon here. I made it till 11:30.
I need to hit Goodwill and find a old walkman cassette player and make a amplifier for my light headphones. I saw a article telling how to do it and it looked simple enough. It is basically removing the tapehead and running a wire with a plug from the detector to the tapehead wires. Also cut the wire to the tape motor. Plug your headphone into the jack on the player and you have a amplifier with volume control.
I have a few weeks to do it because tomorrow I am getting a hernia repair done. Looks like I ripped a stitch from Octobers cancer surgery.
