I got to tell ya, the price of Treasure, & Pleasure

Machines have come a long way. There are any number of machines priced , let's say under $350. In the hands of a newbie who likes to hunt, these machines can pay for themselves rather quickly. (Determined on the hunter & target areas) Now no way do I include myself in the big leagues but. I have owned 5 machines, priced from $180 to $1,200. All have covered their cost. Last year a unit I hunt found a ring twice it's value. Happens all the time in this hobby. Most of my hunts, I come back anywhere from a buck to $9. I'm still happy. Than there's those home run swings, nice chunk of swag. Be it Gold or Silver it's still a thrill for me. No price on pleasure.

All my gear, 5 detectors, a couple of pinpointer, diggers and more cost me about $1600.
The clad I have found plus the gold and silver jewelry and old coins probably values over $4000 but that doesn't matter.
The fun and joy I had finding it all is priceless.

I have more money laying around in fishing gear I use less often than my detecting gear so yes its only money :buds: cant take it with ya but its useful while we are here.

the cost of the equipment that I use for fishing far exceeds the cost of my metal detecting equipment. My fishing equipment (boat, motor, trailer rods, reels etc) will never reimburse me the money that that it cost but my metal detecting equipment has more than paid for itself in four years. When one throws in the value of the exercise and pleasure from detecting there is no comparison.

I don't know I recon hooking a big red thumper is up there or past any detecting feeling I have had :clapping: not that detecting isn't fun !!

get them this big and bigger and I call them thumpers cause of how they fight and one of the best eating fish in the ocean do they have them in the US I call them snapper and if you stick your finger in the mouth of one you will find out why super strong jaws for crushing shell fish etc..\\

At 69, I am set for the rest of my life, probably. I have had the best and finally realized I had only one VALUABLE find deeper than 5-6". A lot has to do with the places I hunt. I finally decided on the MX5 just in case I ever ran into an older site-didn't realize it was that hard to put down! When I was single and lost my job for a few months, my finds fed me a few times and pulled me thru some tight spots. The best explanation I ever heard is you don't find many hobbies that are investments instead of expenses-that is if you USE them instead of collect them!

I am 67 and worked my butt of for 40+ years. I started hunting in 1972. Over the years I have owned many detector's don't have any idea how many. I also have a few other hobbies fishing, gardening, kayaking, art. And I have a lot of money tied up in all my hobbies. Who cares they are hobbies and it is a lot better than setting around waiting to die. And I know so many people that don't have a hobby. I do feel sorry for them. So I will keep on keeping on. HH to all.

LOL.....If I had to match dollar to dollar of equipment cost to finds.......I would have to find Black Beards treasure to match . But I have fun !!!!!

Jim I am approaching 76 years of age. I try to get to the beach a couple of times a week for a fee hours. Usually around 6 hours. I have started walking on the days that I do not go detecting I love the hobby and it helps keep me active. Had m annual physical last month and the doctor told me that I should live to be 100. I told him that wasn't the kind of news that I wanted to hear as I had hoped to live to be OLD>

I gotta tell ya.......... :detecting:
