I drove an hour and half to watch a high school football game Friday night. The game location was a little over halfway to where a guy on Craigslist had a Tesoro Eldorado (µMax) for sale. I called him and he agreed to meet me at the school where the game was to be played. When he open his trunk to get the detector out, my jaw dropped. It look nearly new and so did the box that it came in. Happy, happy, happy. The next day, I checked it out on some targets to see where it discriminated them out. On a nickel the discrimination dial was a little too far past the 5 cent mark for my liking. I loosen the set screw and moved it back to where a nickel would just discriminate out when the dial was on the 5 cent mark. At that adjustment, when I moved the discrimination dial back to the preset, it was just low enough not to discriminate out a foil cap. That's where I like to set it for hunting trashy parks. When I moved the discrimination dial back to 'iron', it just discriminated out a rusty nail. Perfect!

These babies are getting hard to find nowadays.

Congratulations on finding a clean and new looking Eldorado, nice machine:thumbup:

Set screw is about half way up the knob side; directly opposite the knob pointer.

Where is the set screw; I can't find one on my Cibola...

It's a small Allen screw on the side of the discrimination knob.

It's a thing of beauty. Here are some pictures to drool over.

Congrats on getting another Tesoro detector Tabman. I have had to fine tune or adjust the disk knob on every Tesoro I have owned except one. Not a big deal to do, I like mine set to drop a nickel dead on the Nickel line or number depending on the face plate on the detector. This way the nickel comes back in just right under the nickel line. This really helps in the field as most tabs will still come in just above the nickel line. When set this way it really helps the ID of nickels over pull tabs.

The disk knob set up this way works fantastic on my Outlaw and worked great as well on my Vaquero when I had it.

Happy Hunting, :detecting:

It operates at 10.6 kHz, 10.4 kHz, 10.2 kHz. The frequency switch makes it a great competition detector and it also helps with EMI.

The Outlaw has a ED-120 and the Eldorado has a ED-180. Some really like the ED-180, but I prefer the ED-120 where I detect.

Another good thing about the Eldorado is its all metal mode, it's really snappy and responsive. I really like it. Also the audio is pleasant to listen to. It's a mid to high pitch.

great looking machine ya scored there. congrats!!!!!

Tab that is nice , looks like an outlaw , that thing will kick but on a sports field ,

Good on ya, tabman. That's one of my choices if I could only have one Tesoro. In fact, THE choice if limited to one umax detector. You'll be able to retrieve a lot of goodies with the Eldorado.

I guess what impresses me the most about the Eldorado is its all metal mode. It's deep and crisp. I think if I had to pick one 'µMax' detector it would be the Outlaw because I love to search for gold rings at trashy parks and sports fields. If I set the discrimination on both the Eldorado and Outlaw to just discriminate out a foil cap, the Outlaw is noticeably deeper on a nickel (gold ring). For the Eldorado to get the same depth on a nickel, I would have to lower the discrimination to a point where a rusty nail just discriminates out.

Yep, I just picked up an Eldorado last year, after realizing I made a mistake trading off my first one. I have a Tejon as well, but it's my son's favorite machine. I'm chomping at the bit, waiting for the new relic season (cooler weather) to begin. I have some sites I'm excited to find out if there's anything there.

I too, love mine for the depth it gets in all metal, especially in iffy ground. Mine comes out to play when I'm in an 1800's homesite, with no modern trash or if I manage to locate a CW period site and I'm starting to dig everything (a lot of good iron relics out there too). Lightweight and quick recovery are the name of the game, in those circumstances.

Nice , great find!

Mmmmm... minty! Great find! Looking forward to pics of the treasures it finds for you.
