is there anyone out there that can help me with my etrac i am stumped i called minelab they cant help me with just the basics and told me to go to minelab tv on line cause that will help me better i am a beginner a nebie ok i just want to hunt coins and reject all the common junk but find coins and rings i found that my e-trac will not sound off on a silver dollar i am in the coin mode from minelab can someone help me please. the newbie

Some of the silver dollars will read on the very top on the right side of the screen plus if you have 3 or 4 quarters together the signal will either null or break up. What you have to do is open up the little black area on the top right side you see in the factory coin program, this I believe is for hot rock and by using the edit you can take the little area out and it will give a good signal on the silver dollar or several quarters together. If you want to check this out you can hit the quick mask button and swing the silver dollar across in front of the coil as that black area (rejected) is not there in quick mask and you should get a great signal.

I think getting with another Etrac user with some know how would help you alot!! Just do not give up I truely believe you have the best detector on the market.... Hands on is the best teacher...

Where are you ? Maybe you can team up with someone.

Digabighole (I like the name), stay in coin mode with the exception of what the other posters said. Go into edit and open up the top right corner of the screen. Once you do that you should be good to go as far as dollars are concerned. What part of the country are you in? TMAN...

Call the dealer you bought it from. Reputable dealers will help you learn the machine. Minelab is not set up to offer individual customer support and training, dealers are. From the tone of your post it sounds like you have not even tried to learn it or read the manual. Videos online will help you, reading and understanding the manual will help you. Posting vague requests for help on this message board are probably not going to be a big help. If you're not finding pennies, I don't think you even need to worry about finding silver dollars. Get the basics down first, then making the adjustments for what you want to find will be easy, as you will understand the machine and how it works. Some questions:
1) Have you called your dealer?
2) Have you read the manual?
3) Did you understand the manual?
4) Do you have Andy Sabisch's book?
5) Have you tested the machine in your own yard with coins on top of the ground?

I promise you the E-Trac is one of the best detectors on the market. The amount of old coins I have dug is testament to that. But it takes commitment to the hobby to make great finds, and a lot of time swinging the detector. From the tone of your post, you might be someone I would recommend a much more basic detector to first. Learn how it works before you go to a top of the line machine. Obviously it is frustrating you.

I would guess from the content of your post that you'd probably be frustrated with almost any detector. That's not a put down. It's it really sounds like you are starting at ground zero with one of the best, moderately complicated, machines on the market. Setting up the detector is important. A simple beep and dig machine eliminates that problem. However, the ET can be set in the coin mode and you can use it as a beep and dig. Then you have to learn how to swing the coil; where to hunt; how to pinpoint; how to properly recover the target, and what accessories you need at a minimum to do that job. I think it would be well worth you while to do a search on the Internet and find the closest detector club in your area and hook up with them. Or if you don't mind revealing where you are maybe some of the more experienced folks on here will offer to help. Hang in there...It's hard to learn to ride a bike at first...Jim

What the others have said is good advice and there's more! Just ask! :) Of course if you know someone that can help in person, dealer, friend, etc, all the better! In the end though YOU must put the time in. The E-Trac is the high end of Metal detectors and as such requires more of a learning curve than most! So my advice.. Swing it... Learn it... Love it!

first off i want to thank everyone thats trying to help me on this post . i also want to say that my dealer knows nothing about the machine he sold me .i am not madd at him he is a nice guy ,i am frustrated that i have called minelab 2 times and they cant really help me they told me to try the minelab tv site or that i would get better info on this site the minelab tv doesnt have or i cant find some one showing me how to set my machine up they are just digging coins so i am going to lean on you guys for help i am new so go easy on me please i have used a couple of old machines i had a whites 4db and i have a coinmaster 5000 but havent used it much i figured they are to out of date so i wanted technology at its finest and i think i did digabighole for myself lol i live in northern cali :stars:

Yeah, mine did that too. I just edited the default discrimination pattern. Now it hits hard on a silver dollar.

DBH...There's got to be a club in Northern California. Would be nice if some of you in that area tried to help out here. I live in Washington State and it's a bit of a commute to Northern California. DBH...Minelabs job is not to teach you how to run the machine. They tell you what makes it tick and then you have to figure out how to apply that. Read the instruction manual and run it on the factory coin presets. Get Andy's book. Seek the high tones that repeat from left to right and then you turn 90 Degrees and it should repeat in the both directions. After a bit you won't have to do the 90 turn. You'll just know by the sound that it's something to dig. All the preceeding is for just having fun and digging recent coin drops. When you start hunting real silver and gold, then'll you have more learning to do and it's not quite as straightforward as starting looking for clad. You still might find some silver or a gold ring. That's what makes it fun. You never know what you just discovered until you dig it. Expect to dig somethings you'd like not to dig. Nails, aluminum cans...but if you hear those and dig them, you'll start to learn what to ignore and what to dig. If you don't have fun at it, you'll leave the detector in the closet and in a year or two somebody will get a hardly used machine at a good price....Jim
