This spring I borrowed a buddies compadre to try in the fields I hunt because I heard they are lightning fast in iron. I was so impressed at how it found flat buttons and even a few indians that other detectors missed I knew I had to get one for the fall field season.

I decided to get the 8" coil model, hoping for a bit more depth. I have a coin garden in my backyard, been there for about 4 yrs now. I have coins buried at a measured 7.5" It was able to hit the clad quarter no problem, even at max disc. It was able to hit the silver dime and it started to fade out as I moved the disc up to in between pulltab and penny it started to crackle out.

I also have a wheat buried at 7.5" and I was surprised it did not pick it up, even with no disc at all. But at this price I am more than pleased it hit the quarter and silver dime at 7.5" easy....I think this will be a fun machine to use in the fields this fall!!!

It's almost like cheating..... shame on you.

Good choice.

At little more depth with the bigger coil and you'll also be able to cover more area faster in those large open areas.

The Compadre hits super hard on nickels and gold rings.

If you feel like trying to get a little more out of it ... I carry a phillips head screw driver and an electronics adjustment tool in the car. When I have the Compadre along, I get those tools out and set the sensitivity so it is just starting to chatter when the coil is well away from the ground. As the coil approaches the ground it quiets down. If it is still chattering a little, once it goes over a target it really quiets down and nails the target. The increased sensitivity can gain just a little more depth.

JB(MS) has provided a picture of the rev 4 board layout several times over the last few years. One of those is here:

Sensitivity increases turning it counter clockwise and decreases going clockwise.

If you are happy just as it is that is terrific too!
Cheers,
tvr
