I've got the same story but it looks like you'll have better luck identifying yours. Nice find.

Unidentifiable coin?

I found this coin a few years ago on a NC beach with a ctx. I've posted it on several sites and no one has been able to identify it yet. Any ideas ?

Thanks everyone it kind of surprised me the bank was eroded and I love detecting these areas it was just under the cut bank probably fell after the storms like another beach I detect I always find old coins there also...
One well know YouTube guy I asked his advice he seems to think it is a type of hammered?
I’ve had no luck trying to identify it but it’s a cool piece...

That's an interesting find for sure. My guess would have been some sort of Maravedis coin as you have surmised.

I would say your described technique of how to hunt that beach shows you hammered right on!!! Ok, someone had to do it.......

That’s a very interesting item there Mark. Question from a non-beach/saltwater guy....if that was old and around salt wouldn’t it be corroded? Maybe it wasn’t in the water for long, or at all? Maybe bronze? It sure looks different than anything I’ve seen posted.
