I must say this forum has some very smart people ID'ing these items...Here's something that I can only guess are an early traction device for some poor beast of burden? Looks more like a cruel dog collar but they are much too short. The one on the left I found at the spot I pulled the Masonic sword chain & other early pieces. These 2 on the right I found today were basically in the same hole-At another old homestead spot...

Curious as to why the have open end loop hooks on both sides & extra links are welded on the 1st crosswise to the links. These today have links formed arund crosswise in a similar method.

Thanks!!

Looks like you might have two sizes of tire chains. Tractor maybe

Probably for the old skinny wheel cars-Model A etc...There is a entire wheel assembly of something like that burried at the site I found the 1st chain.Tire/rim & spokes...Haven't tried to dig it out & wouldn't without the landowners permission.

The 2 I found today are shorter & slightly diffrent lengths- so who knows what they fit. But I have found horshoes with bars welded across the fron & very deep cleats at the rear for traction-That horse worked hard for his hay.

Thanks again for the ID..

I've seen chains similar to that and they were used on horse drawn farm implements. One example would be that the chains are used to hold up the working end of a farm implement so that it can be turned around or transported without the working parts being in the ground.
