Was walking in the woods my parents own close to some newer homes where an old 1800s farm house sat before swinging around looking for some more silver and I came across a signal that was going crazy,12-45,9-50,12-09,12-39,12-02 but I thought it was going to be some kind of junk as the house sat not too far from that huge tree and I got a few chunks of odd metals in the area and 2 silver coins so I didn't think anything of just diggin in the middle of all those weird signals,as soon as I turned the plug over rosary beads were everywhere, whoa! Not what I expected! and I seen a glimmer of silver in there,I said to myself,no way! After a quick cigarette,I was picking out a steady flow of religious pendants, and a gold cross that is my first gold ever!and 15 sterling charms and one is some kind of sterling navy medic pin,it all took me 4 hours and 2 trips to get it all of it, some are aluminum... I think all those came from the cheap rosarys, that was one exiteing dig!,got some vid that ill post to my you tube as soon as I get some time! Thanks! Mole

What A Wonderful Find!

A friend MDer here found years ago a very similar stash and I believe it was a Find of the Year in a Detector Magazine
If your interested I can get the site for you to view

But the reasoning for the Finds was that it was near or in an old Convent area and when a Nun died they would bury her Worldly Goods
Which as you can see may be a variety of precious and semi precious metal religious items

Either way this is an Amazing Find :clapping:

Very cool - congrats !

The only accepted way to retire religious catholic items such as broken rosaries and other medallions is to burn them or bury them. My church collects such items and "retires" them through burial once a year on the church grounds.

There's a better way to retire them, especially if they're silver. Smelt those suckers down and cash in!

I believe it is about Respect in burying items that were personal and cherished

Many of us do not turn in our Silver to melt although that is certainly acceptable

I know you meant that comment in jest with no intention of insult

Well, if you remove the items from the ground you pretty much disrespect the intentions of whoever buried them, so going one step further and cashing in on them isn't a big leap. Keeping them around in their current forms only reminds you of what ya did. Pretty sure whoever put them there wont care now, so if it was I, I;d be sending them off to be lumped and dumped. There's a lot of silver there. Definitely a great haul.

Cool finds.... WTG!!!!
