I found a video

on how to build a metal detector using a calculator, a cd, a dvd, a 9 volt battery, ear phones, glue and tape, I might try making one some day, I don't know how to post a link but I just typed in "how to turn a calculator into a metal detector" it is kind of interesting.

Saw that one on You Tube just this week too. A real Macgiver kind of thing. Probably works as a nail/stud finder too. Might be a good rainy day type project to entertain the kids.

Actually the one I am talking about is different from the video Homefires posted, I googled "you tube, how to turn a calculator into a metal detector" it should be the second one with the picture of the persons fingers holding the 9 volt battery.
