It is badly worn . Smaller than a dime and much thinner. There is a bust on one side and some writing but cant make it out. It was in an old park, mixed in with the tabs. Found it with a Vaquero .I was searching for gold and digging everything.

see if you where not digging all , you may have missed it , that thing is old very old looks 1600,s

I don't have a clue what it is. It looks neat though.

Hatpin,

It might be a Spanish

Nice find,

Probably 200 years old or older...Congrats

It looks like a 1/2 reale but the years don't match up with the 1700's. This design is from the early 1800's.

Now that's a Prize,
what ever it turns out to be.

Heres the reverse. A little better picture. It has columns and a shield. I can make out a 17 on the front.

Hi hatpin, really a sweet dig and my guess is a Carolus III 1/2 Real being in the 1700s'.(Father Son) Bust is similar to Carolus IIII on 1803 Spanish Colonial Real or possibly same Carolus IIII . Finding a Real means it is '"Hammer Time", Big Time!! , so hang with that site, something worthwhile was happening there! HH, Charlie

I can make out the silhouette well enough to ID it as the Carlous IIII. I just cant get a pic clear enough to show it.

Other things I have found near by have been this shield that i have yet to ID and this very old Hawking whistle that was found just twenty yards away..

Fantastic find, thanks for showing us!

Thanks for the help guys. I am now sure what it is, Carlous IIII half Reale. The bust has a pug nose so its easy to ID once I saw a picture. Just dont know the exact date, 17something. I never imagined that. I thought it was a half dime.

Sweet finds as well, all calling for the "Hammer time." Days I could not hunt it I would be doing some serious research on history/land ownership of the area as far back as possible and also some Topo features indicating a good Hawking location or campsite/travel route. . Falconry was much the sport of Kings and Rich folks so the site may have been visited regularly for a "hunt" or maybe just a good camp site for folks passing through. Sweet site though for sure and the more you learn of the history the sharper it will hone your hunt skills. HH, Charlie
