I found a ringy thingy in the woods...

Someone on the Tesoro forum said this could be a civil war era hearth weath sord buckle?Said that the center piece may say CS? Do you know anything about this ringy thingy?
 
Yes that is a tongue and wreath buckle There were many types not all CS and not all were for sword belts, many were civilian and were just on regular belts. Also they were long time span not just civil war.

I see what you mean,it could be from a large group.Thanks a bunch. ;-)
 
The fact that it is cast and not stamped... indicates a higher quality. I would not rule out military or police service. If you look at CW buckles there are many many of this type. a pitty you did not find the other half. I found the same piece last summer and looked at hundreds of buckles online but failed to get a clear match. Mnay units where small but had their own buckle.
