I FOUND A GRENADE

Well, actually a cap grenade. That is what is marked on it. I found the patent for it, pic below. I remember these when I was a kid. I searched the grass area around this house and found 1 penny. I found the other stuff in the yard to. The Fink's Detroit Special is off a pair of overalls. Then I went under an oak tree and found the grenade and a 1959 penny. I will go back and end up working the whole yard, probably about an acre and a half. Don't mind the shorts, it's still nice here in California.

OK THAT'S IT!!! I'm moving back to California and live with my bro to do some :twodetecting: Great finds Awhitster!!!

...yours are much better than the ones the dogs leave behind!

Ive found one or two of those cap grenades, too. The rest of the stuff is typical yard gleanings. The shotshell dates from the mid 30's or earlier, as the UMC Co. was absorbed by the Remington-Peters group at that time.

Having fun in Cali with the aCe....Life is good.

I figured you got a real one. And I played with those when I was a kid. Thanks for the heads up on the history of that grenade.

Yeah I remember those but we used to make our own when I was a kid out of two bolts and a nut. We couldn't afford fancy toys and it was more fun creating your own. Worked like a charm and really sounded off. We didn't use caps but used the head off of kitchen matches. Those little suckers really explode.

We built everything, the aforementioned, our own kites, scooters, slingshots, blow guns, carbide bombs, rubber guns, bow and arrows, toboggans, model airplanes, rubber band powered shingle boats, tree houses, club houses above and under the ground, rope swings everywhere, rafts, stilts, and a host of other things.

We did the same but used a spark plug.

You'll have to find your own place to live. There's only room for me and the wifey in this little 2 bedroom shack.

Bill
Did all that but don't forget skateboards with plywood and steel skate wheels, boogie boards made from paneling and a whittled skeg to ride at Pismo Beach (long before boogie boards were invented), plywood skim boards, 3 of us on a tote goat (no mini bikes yet), wooden push carts and ........................:clapping:

There were also spoke guns made from bicycle wheel spokes and match heads.

...My dada was a reloader and shootist and we used to raid his powder cabinet. shotgun powder, being fast burning, makes great rockets. And it is truly amazing how little of the stuff is needed to go bang when enclosed in a capped pipe nipple. I mean BANG!!

Ahhhhh, the good old days.

I forgot about tote goats! And pedal cars, up and down the sidewalks.

I still play with my carbide canon. Up dated it a few years ago with a grill igniter. I sold my potato canon this past summer.

Yeah we used to make carbide bombs out of fruit jars. It's a wonder we didn't get blown up or lose our eyes but guess the old boy upstairs watches over kids and idiots. Coures after I got older we used it to blow fish out of the water.

Bill

Yeah all that and more. Remember the old Whizzer bikes. My buddy had one that we rode to death. Now if you can find one they want thousands for it. As I recall, back then the motor and accessories cost about $175. Wish they would bring them back. Also the old Salsbury scooter. Man they were one hot scooter with an accelerator peddle instead of a twist grip throttle. And the Cushman Eagle.

In high school we used to swipe some fun stuff from chemistry class, like hydrogen sulphide - the rottenest smelling creation in the world and trinitrous iodine ( spelling ) that when dribbled on the floor and let dry, exploded when one stepped on it. Did we have a ball with that duo.

Just before an assembly or show in the assembly hall we would slip in and dribble some TI along the path where the Superintendent would walk on stage to announce the program then wait for the fireworks.
THat would work. Did you put the match head in the electrode end?

Bill
Yes sir. Twist it with pliers till it broke, hopefully deep inside. Wire the 2 together with enough for a handle. Fill it with match heads. When it blew the spark plug up, go find another.
