I got a garrette detector at a yard sale for seven dollors and 50 cents.I gave it to my son and I use it sometimes. The thing is I have a detector with a pinpointer on it and can not figure out where anything is with his. Is ther a trick to it. Thanks. Quizpro

What detector is it? Sounds like a sweet deal. If it doesn't have pinpoint all you do is X the target until you get a visual of where center is. Using the center of the coil for your reference. Its really easy once you get used to it.
Since you seem to be having trouble, spend much more time Xing the target,(less digging) watching the center of the coil as you do.Maybe even ,side step and go over it again until the center of the coil and the "beep" all line up from the X pattern. Thats all there is, if that doesnt work there may be something wrong with the machine.

Try it on a coin you can see.
Good Luck

Garrett has produced dozens of different detectors over the past 40 years or so. My crystal ball is broken so it would be nice to know which detector it is.
